    Eagle carving in 3D?

It's been awhile since I've done anything in a wood carving. This is a photo of a flag pole topper, in cast iron, that I thought of reproducing in wood. The carving would be between 10-12" tall and carved in basswood. I want to do a 3 dimensional carving and then mount it on a round pedestal. The eagle would then be gilded in gold.

    As the Eagle flys.

I just found this photo that I taken in Stockholm, and I'm thinking about carving /gilding this as my next project. There is a lot of undercutting, which will be interesting. Now, to scale this to a reasonable size!

this is just off the CNC table. I was playing with using some frames I had in the studio and wanted to mount carvings instead of paintings. wanted the carvings to come outside the frame.

  9. Good Morning Patriot Woodworker's! This is your official wake-up call for the week! As usual we want to know what you did over the weekend, it does not matter if it's woodworking related, we just want to be nosy! So, what did ya get done, what did you not get done, did you get some shop time, or did you turn on the TV and watch sports all weekend, either way, drop us a line here and tell what the heck did you do. Also, what do you have on your woodworking, or life in general agenda for the coming week ahead? Please drop us a line here in this topic, and if you can spare a few, images please! Civic Duty Yep, it's that time of year again, and it's a duty we take seriously in our nation. Your vote counts, so head to the polls and make your voice be heard! My philosophy has always been, if you don't vote, you can't complain! Dale Felice's carving brings in funds for a young man Patriot Woodworker and Veteran Dale Felice is a carver, on a big scale. He uses his chainsaw to carve logs, and what comes out of those logs are some fantastic art pieces. One of his art pieces went up for auction to benefit Brady who was diagnosed with Sarcoma. We are so proud of Dale, our community was founded on the principles that Dale exhibits with his work and his "Give Back" attitude to causes that are near and dear to his heart. He frequently carves for benefits and auctions for law enforcement and veterans events. Thank you Dale for your service to our nation, and your continued service in the civilian world! Please drop by Dale's gallery image and drop him a note of encouragement and a thanks for his service at "Freedoms Landing". Dale Felice with Brady in image below: For more of Dales cravings see his album at: Spread the word Our community grows by word of mouth, since we are not backed by a major magazine, nor a major commercial entity, we do not have the built in member base like other forum communities have, we depend on you, our current members to let others know about our great community of woodworkers, so please contact your friends, and let them know we are here, and we welcome all!
