February 7, 201412 yr Very nice and classy Gene, it appears classic and looks for high quality! Very nice indeed. Those knobs are cool, care to share the fabrication process of those knobs?
February 7, 201412 yr Author Thanks Lew and John :-), appreciate the comments. For the pulls, I started with a piece of 3/4 stock about 12" long and 6" wide. Dressed only on the top edge (The tops of the pulls are edge grain.) The size of the stock was just so that I could keep my fingers safe during the milling. The pulls are only 1" high by 1 1/2" long. I came down from the top edge 1/4" and drew a layout line. Wanted to pulls to be 1 1/2" long at the top so I measured in from each end of the pull 1/4" and made a mark. Then, using a 1/2" Forstner, positioned it so that the top edge of the bit kissed my first line and made a dent with the with the drill point on that 1/4" in mark. Did that on both ends of the pull. Drilled through holes at the DP. Two per pull. Put a 3/8" straight bit in the router table, adjusted the fence to cut to the line that is 1/4" from the top and 1/4" deep. Routed both sides of the stock. Then, I ripped the piece so that a 1/4" thick 3/4" wide piece was left for the bottom of the pull. That rip cut through the bottom 1/3 or so of the 1/2" holes. That left an arc smaller at the bottom and longer at the underside of the pull's flat top. Then I cross cut the pulls. Took each to the spindle sander and smoothed the transition of the arc at each end. A bit of smoothing of the tops and they were done. Hope this all made sense. Took longer to describe than to actually make the cuts.
