Finally have the cutting jig made and learning how to use it.Instead of starting from scratch with a jig, the base of the John Beaver/Alan Stratton hybrid jig is used as an adjustable pivot point. The circular arc part is mounted to it.Modified toilet flange bolts are used to capture the T-tracks allowing the arc portion to swivel and pinned at the desired distance from the bandsaw blade.A 1/4x20 bolt/nut was modified to act act as a pivot point for the actual turning blank. This pivot point sets arc distance from the blank edge to the center. The T-track also provided a way to lock the turning blank into place when making the arc cutThe end result, hopefully will be a shallow bowl and/or platter similar to thisThe arcs will need to cut free and a thin slice of contrasting wood glued into place. Each 2 piece segment will be glued back together and then turned. (He says with foolish authority)Safe turning
May 28May 28 Thanks for the mention Lew. It is amazing what 2 days in hospital bed can do for your stamina. Got to see what mike has to say about drive centers.
May 28May 28 That's a pretty cool arc jig, Lew. Are those cuts smooth enough for gluing or do you sand them down a little?
May 31May 31 Author @HandyDan Thanks!@Gerald Thank You!@Fred W. Hargis Jr Thanks! The arcs are pretty smooth. I'm testing now to see if it will work without sanding. Making a clamping jig for glue ups.@RustyFN Thank You!@Rusty S Thanks!
