put a short extension cord over to the outlet with the receptacle next to the saw,

Good points (thank you!). I do have an outlet up on the same side (is higher on the wall) so that might be better. @Grandpadave52 gave some good options on cords.

Good weekend although I didn't accomplish much shop wise and nothing outside with rain most all day Saturday. A few domestic duties today; a couple evening meetings at church. Oldest grandson played

  • spent about an hour cleaning up the shop, emptying all the shop vacs, sweeping and vacuuming the floor, putting away tools, folding some towels, getting ready for the next big project: building a din

large hole saw,

So...looks like I need a 2.5 inch hole saw. I bought a set with a range of sizes a year or two ago. Hoping the set has the right size. Can anyone help me remember where the set is?!? 🤣🤣🤣 Shop reorganization means where things WERE is no longer where they ARE. Likely hiding with a few missing tape measures and pencils. Just have to laugh. I'm sure as soon as I buy one, I'll find the set.

I'll promise you, they will be in the last place you look, so start there.🤣

If you don't mind while you're looking, see if you can find the new idler pulley I bought for my mower a couple years ago. I put it in a logical place where I could find it. 🙃

Amazon, Home Depot, Lee Valley... many people carry holesaws as well as sets. You could use a fly cutter. They cut nice but many woodworkers are intimidated and feel they are unsafe. You use it in a drill press only. One flycutter can cut almost any size hole. Here's what they look like:

You can make the fly cutter safer by adding a translucent cover (coffee can lid) to the top (drill an appropriate hole). The cover gives a visual reference for where the cutter(s) are.

Well since we are helping you spend your money Barbara, you might toss one of THESE in the shopping cart too.😜

Rocker also sells them or order direct from isocket. How much do I have left in the budget?Laughing

That's actually a pretty reasonable price!

Lee Valley has a bunch of different switches like that as well.

While they do the exact same product is ~$12 US more expensive from LV than Rockler or direct from the manufacturer.

A slightly less expensive option that is basically the same thing HERE if you can plug directly into an outlet or if you use a power strip you may already have as the extension cord.

I see the benefit of the vac turning on with the tool, but it seems with a mitersaw it would constantly be turning on and off, on and off, etc. I have wondered if that is hard on the vacuum so never really looked into the automatic options. Typically I turn on the vacuum and just let it run while I make a series of cuts.

Isn't that what online forums are good at?!? 🤣🤣🤣

I'll say, I hopefully spend money more wisely with advise from others that may have experience or insights that I'm lacking.

I have to agree with Barbara hat on off cycling would definitely not help a motor. I just turn it on and leave it on till finished. I did get a new remote switch with 2 fobs so I can turn on DC w/o going across the shop.
