April 6Apr 6 Popular Post Not all that much, Saturday was prepping for Easter, and Sunday was Easter. This should be a much better week, but probably not for shop work. The yard is screaming for attention and I have some other outside stuff to do. Today and tomorrow may be shop days, I'll have to see how things go. Did you give the Morris the week off again???? April 6Apr 6 Popular Post I have a few things in my shop going on. I'm prototyping a Japanese scraper plane vs card scraper to see if there is a significant difference in what they can accomplish (aside from getting into smaller spaces/corners). Especially since the former is mainly used exclusively for relieving bottoms of other planes. Almost seems like alot of work to make it just to scrape other plane bottoms. It's not like I'm making alot of Japanese planes. I also am in the process of making a foot stool rest for in front of our couches. I'm getting ready to do the upholstery. Never done that before so looking forward to the challenge.

I have one of these https://www.portercable.com/product/ns150c/18-ga-1-12-narrow-crown-stapler-kit.Really comes in handy for all sorts of upholstering repairs and projects. The staples are a little more robust, than necessary, for upholstery projects but they really hold.

April 7Apr 7 Popular Post Good weekend although I didn't accomplish much shop wise and nothing outside with rain most all day Saturday.A few domestic duties today; a couple evening meetings at church. Oldest grandson played his first HS baseball game tonight; he was 1/3 at bat, one run, no errors. He played 1st base tonight; also pitches and sometimes right field. They won 10-0 vs County rival. Play them again at home Wednesday.Hope to get on pick up stick patrol after the frost burns off tomorrow; probably will take me two days. Hopefully get some grass hacked down before the weekend and the next multi-day rain event moves in starting late Friday.Edit add: Looks like tomorrow's plan just got altered. Once suited and it warms up, up I'll be on de-skunk duty. Dog decided to go after a pole cat tonight. Didn't end well. She'll be spending the night outside. Always something. April 7Apr 7 A farmer I knew once told me that Tomato juice will neutralize skunk odor instantly. Soak or spray it on your dog.
April 7Apr 7 Popular Post Worked on getting ready for Saturday event on Friday so that blew the day. Easter event at the Agriculture Museum on Saturday. We did not have a great day but it was the best Easter we have ever had. Worked on flower beds when I got home and finally finished those Sunday afternoon. Today did a bit of grass seeding and some sod moving to boot. Not my fav kinda work but not too bad when taken a little at a time.
April 7Apr 7 Popular Post @BB1 @Grandpadave52 here is a great recipe for actually neutralizing skunk odor. Tomato juice really only masks it.Use this homemade mixture to chemically neutralize the odor:1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide1/4 cup of Baking Soda1–2 teaspoons of Liquid Dish detergent Edited April 7Apr 7 by MrRick
April 7Apr 7 I've actually used it Barb. It works. But not as fast. Tomato juice is pretty instant but when it dries and fades the skunk odor can return some. I'd initially use the tomato juice for instant nose relief followed by the other recipe.

It helps but takes several bathings. That's what we always used at home when I lived at home on the farm. My stepmother had a couple Dachshunds that were really skunk hounds.Anyways, last time this dog (Australian Shepherd) decided to evict one from the yard, we bought a commercial product from the Pet Store; Skunk Away; also have used Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover and Skunk Off with good results too. I'll have to check current inventory. May need a trip to the Pet Store tomorrow &/or Runnings. We usually have some on hand for times such as this. Not her first skunk rodeo.
April 7Apr 7 Popular Post Do the commercial products also take the 10-15 soak time? We had a skunk under the bird feeder last year I had a heck of a time getting rid of; our little dog seemed to think it was a possible playmate.Eventually (after about 4 nights the skunk caught lead poisoning which was my absolute last choice for solving the problem. But in case it happens again this year. I want to be ready. Oh, my question....having our little dog soak that long would be a real challenge; I guess it is with most dogs.
