Nursing Room Cabinets

and a bonus, the door to this room is 93Hx36W, 1-3/4" thick, solid core....very heavy. but the church has a few spares leftover from construction, so they find a matching one, same size, same handed-ness. take that home. i'll later cut the center out so a frosted glass can be installed, to give some more light to the room, and i'll use the cutout for the counter top. only cost is the cost of the glass from the glass shop later. will also make some trim pieces to hold the glass in place from some scrap maple i have in hand. busy, busy. time to head to the shop.....

circles....why did it have to be circles.....

edge banding circles is one of my least favorite activities, and having to do it 6 times does not improve the experience.

anyway, got the lazy susans all mounted and also built the trash can cabinet and got the trash can pull out mounted.

that's enough for today.

tomorrow i need to make 6 doors for the lazy susan cabinets and get them hung, make a door panel for the trash can pull out and a drawer above the trash cans.

then a few other odds and ends and my work in my shop is done on this project. will install next week when the room is ready.

after that, work on the entry door cut out and finishing the countertop. would like to get at least 3 coats of poly onto it.

proof of something:

@DAB Great progress! I dealt with edgebanding straight sections on my current project and can only imagine the challenges of dealing with curves. What are these going to be used for that require the circle turntables?

for storage of stuffs. they'll be at 7 feet and up above the floor, so this way, things don't get lost in the back of the 24" deep cabinets. lets you bring things to within reasonable reach with a step stool. did the same thing above my refrigerator in my kitchen long ago.

Man DAB, you're going to have a truck and trailer load delivering all these. Takes a lot more space than the raw material.

Well done!

work bench is a bit of a mess.....

someone asked about lazy susans in another thread, these are 22" dia with a 12" lazy susan hardware underneath.

bonus points if you noticed the grain continues from the drawer front to the trash can panel.....

the Blum hinges require a cup hole (1-3/8" x 1/2" deep) to be centered 22.5mm from the door edge.....:toetap:.....or 29/32" if you are short a Metric ruler.

today was some loose ends, got the last doors mounted and adjusted, still need to put on the pulls, another day.

and then the big project was cutting a hole in the door. this will allow a frosted glass panel to be inset, and the cut out will become the countertop. had one chance to do this, so think it thru carefully and go slowly.

glued on the stops for the glass on the outside of the door, will make matching ones for the inside tomorrow, the glass guys will use them when they install the glass at their shop later.

a good project needs 2 clamps, a great project needs 33 clamps......

Just goes to show, you never can have too many clamps.

i knew it was 33 because i have 40 of that 12" size and type, and there were still 7 on the rack unused.

this morning's progress: got a coat of poly onto the stops on the door, semi-gloss; got a second set of stops made and coated with poly for when the glass is installed; cut the cut out to length to be used as the counter top, and got the front edge of the new counter glued on, some solid maple. need to chamfer that edge and then poly the whole counter with at least 2 coats, maybe 3, we'll see how it looks.

let's hear it for sliding tables on the TS, a good cross cut miter gauge, and some clamps to hold it all steady. and some roller stands to support the work. only had one chance to do it right. today's answer was 18 clamps.

time for lunch.....

all installed today. one loose end to wrap up tomorrow or so is a close out panel from the top of the cabinet to the ceiling. decided to wait to measure the width (5-1/2"), and next is making baseboards for the room (4-1/4" high), will work on that later this week, need to buy some maple first.

a lot of Tab A goes into or next to Slot B......it all fit as planned!!!

a full truck for the trip over too. let's hear it for large trucks.

bought some 6/4 maple to make the baseboards this morning.....:faint:.......$8.25/BF, need 27.5 BF, out the door for almost $250. all boards they had were 6-7" wide, baseboards will only be 4-1/8 tall by 1/2" thick, so 3" becomes scrap, then i can saw the rest in half and get 2 pieces of baseboard out of it. will mess with that this weekend. have to get one edge straight first, and likely have to move the planer to allow 10 feet on each end for infeed and out feed. have to move the router table back to the wall. might make a cutting board out of the scrap. present for someone.
