Getting notifications - suspicious web page and videos don't show properly

Featured Replies

I'm on about 15 forums for woodworking, CNC, photography, acoustic guitar building, etc. and have no issues with any of them... except here.  Every time I look at a thread/post I get a notification that I am on a suspicious web page (I never close the tabs, all of them are open 24/7).

Also, when I post a video like I did in the French polishing thread the videos look like this on my computer -

So... what's going on?  I've tried all the geek stuff - clearing cache, cookies, disabling extensions, etc. to no avail.

send me the YT video link in a message. Insert it as a link rather than embedding it as a video.

Any video I post does the same (here and here only).  There's no specific video and given the suspicious notification I get each time I come here tells me there's something with the way the forum is set up.  Wood Talk Online uses the same software and I don't get the notification there plus videos I upload show properly (to me).

Can you add our site to Exceptions?

Seems like I tried that but I'll check again.

Btw, I get the same results when switching browsers - Brave is my default but I also tried it in Edge and Chrome.  That tells me it's something to do with my computer.  My computer is fairly new (couple of months) - i9 14900k processor, ASUS Z790-Pro motherboard, 32GB DDR5 RAM, several terabytes of M.2 on several drives, Windows 11 Pro, Bitdefender AV - no slouch of a machine.

It just seems odd to me that this site is the only one across three browsers that videos show this way and that I get the suspicious site notification on.  Maybe it's my computer - who knows???

As I stated earlier, on my iPhone the videos look fine.  If they are showing properly for y'all then I guess that's good 'nuff.  I'm a geek and take some degree of pleasure in diving into things like this but honestly, recovering from back surgery is enough of a challenge for now. 🤪

@difalkner

I didn't ask, but, what would happen if you disabled the Bitdefender  antivirus and any script blockers and try to post again. Also, if Edge and Chrome imported security setting s from Brave, that may be a place to start checking.

Unfortunately, that's the first thing I tried.  There's another way I can try it, though.  Still seems odd that this is the only forum where I see the notification messages and that videos don't show properly (not just the ones I post, some of the ones y'all post don't show up correctly, either).

you could try to add a custom rule to the Windows firewall.

Except that I use my router in addition to Bitdefender for firewall.  Good idea, though.

No sir, separate devices.  Modem is AT&T gig fiber, router is a high-end Netgear.  Both have worked flawlessly for a long time (years) and this issue presented itself here recently, a couple of months after firing up the new computer.

@difalkner, I've reached out to our software developer community to see if it's anything we can do on our end, should hear back end of day.

Hopefully, it's something simple - either on your end or mine but it's a bit frustrating to have been posting videos for several years now and all of a sudden they don't show up properly for me.  Thanks, John and Lew!

I'd try a CAT 6 cable directly from the computer into the modem- temporarily bypassing your router. See if it works. Could eliminate one firewall.

:ChinScratch: Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago right after the December W11 update, lasted about 3-4 hours then went away. :WonderScratch:

@difalkner

If I remember correctly, I rebooted the modem/router then things were back to Abby-Normal.
