November 23, 2025Nov 23 Have a stack of boards left over from the Last Projects... This will be how I sorted through the mess...and built a Shaker Style Table... Stay tuned..🤠
November 23, 2025Nov 23 Treasure the ash boards. Around here none are available thanks to some pest that decimated the ash trees. 4D
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author Popular Post Ok..1st 2 planks? And #2.. Had a lot of "Issues" Plank #3 was a little bit better... First 2, were ripped down to get rid of all the splits.. What was left...#3 planks 3 pieces are at the bottom of the stack, then I also found a 1 x 6 in the leftovers stack..The rest came from the splitsville Duo.. There was this other Leftover.. After a few rip cuts.. I removed the barky stuff, and, because there was a big cup going down the center..it became these two... #4 Plank....had a Beer Belly.. I used that short cut off to set the fence for a resaw.. They are sitting on the Cross cut blade, because I needed this one installed.. Set the fence to a strong 3/4" and run the 2 "Fat Boys" through.. Not great, cut out the better stuff, burn the rest..which left this one IN the shop... 68" long, 1 x 8...there was one issue, other than the barky edges Was what was in this "Bullseye" feature... Should have known,,,well, two cross cuts later.. "Exit, Stage Right!" As Snagglepuss used to say... Left this And this.. Hmmm..trimmed the barky off.. Hmmm maybe IF I make another cut or 2... Maybe a Table Top? Last 2 planks... Hmmmm.. Hmm.. Well... I'll need blanks about 20" long for the legs ...so.. Stay tuned...
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author Popular Post Ok..suppose I needed legs for a Table..a 3/4 by 1-1/2 leg won't work all that well...but, IF I double it up... So.. I take this mess, rip them down into strips.. Remove the barky parts Some didn't turn out too bad...had to work around a few things.. And, some had issues with NOT being consistent in thickness, so.. Some I had to plane the high spots on both faces..others I simply tablesawed the fat parts off to 3/4" thick.. Next...Glue and clamps.. 1st "leg blank" .. Then, 2 more...the 4th one? Always seems to be "The One"... We have ways... That needed a little extra pressure... Let these sit a day or so... Stay tuned...
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author Popular Post So..while waiting on the leg blanks to cure...might as well look at these 3 parts.. Need edges jointed, sure...but, I needed to flatten the boards first.. On another site, someone thought that holding a board in the bench vise to be planed..was "WRONG!" So..set up a plane stop, and a blue dog Faces were still rough sawn, and had a slight cup to them.. Just enough to throw things off.. Once I have things fairly flat with the No.6c.... The WR No. 62 would go over the surface, trying to get it a bit smoother.. There was a bit of a twist... That also got planed out.. So, in addition to getting rid of rough sawn stuff, flattening cups, I also had to remove the twists.. Same board...made a big mess on the floor... I had 2 such piles to sweep up.. Now, about the jointer work... Sorry guy, this is NOT going to work..so.. I went back to making Moxxon TP...when the "Roll" is full width and full length.. And that square FINALLY says the edge is square to the face...turn the board over, and do the other edge... Once all things are planed, and ready...spent a bit of time, trying the get the grain to almost match up... Spread some glue..add a few pipe clamps...and let it sit for a day or 3... 2 pieces from the earlier planks...will now be turned into Bread Board ends.. Show Face Option #1 Or, turn the board over.. Option #2....We'll see.. Today is a Monday...not sure IF I'll head to the shop, today.. Need to work on the blanks for the legs.. Needs to be 4-squared to 1-3/8", cut down and square the ends to 18" each...then...they will get a beaded corner, and then tapered on two faces.. Stay tuned...
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author Popular Post Well..Boss had her errands moved back to Tuesday...so..today is a Freebie😱 Needed to joint one edge.. On each leg, that I can run along the rip fence...and remove the nasty edge 90 degrees from that jointed edge..once all 4 legs were run through, reset the fence to 1-1/12".. And run the remaining two edges through... Ends...gang the four legs up and clamp to the Mitre Gauge..once the fence was out of the way.. Goal was to get a square end...moved things around a bit..and extra clamp at the just cut end...before I removed the one at the other end...turn the mess 180 and clamp to the Mitre Gauge again.. Final length is about 21" or so..and they all match each other... Need Aprons next....because I need to lay out where the leg tapers will start/end...so 2 sides, and 1 Back.... Yep, these were a bit rough, needed to be a bit flatter, too...we have ways.. Roughness gone, cupping gone.. There was a big Hollow right about there...so I merely leveled the hills around it...so it is all "Flatlands" now.. Taper layouts.. came down 1" from the apron's bottom edge, make a mark...down at the far end, come in 3/4" and mark for the Foot of the Leg..connect the dots.. Bandsaw blade is starting to get too dull.. But.. I'll keep the cut-off as a pattern, for the rest of the taper cuts..usually on the worst 2 faces...keeping the best 2 for show... Hmmm..Monday? Meh...
November 26, 2025Nov 26 Author Popular Post Thought MAYBE the blade was dull, so.. Tried this one out...turned out, it was even duller than the one I just replaced...it burned it way along..so.. These 2 had quite a bit of work to do...plus a bit of work with a No. 3... yeah, almost too much work...but.. They didn't turn out too bad... "T" stands for Taper...it also stands for where a Tenon will be... Let them sit for a day or 2.. Let them just stand there..yes.. There is 4 legs standing there... Stay tuned...
November 26, 2025Nov 26 Popular Post HAve not seen this much to post in one day from you in a long time and on a Monday. Glad to see you have got your groove back.

November 27, 2025Nov 27 Author I took today off...had a lot of errands to run....wasn't quite sure which task to do next....Mr. Gumption, and Mr. Motivation had left the Building... Option #1....take the panel for the Table's Top out of the clamps, flatten it...square the ends.....then mill a Tongue on each end. Cut 2 Bread Board Ends to length, make sure they are the same width...Plane them smooth the match the ends of the panel.....Mill a groove to match that tongue on the Panel..and glue things up... Option #2....Figure out IF there will be a Drawer, or not...and figure out the aprons...with their Tenons...so I can start to chop Mortises for those tenons.. Option #3...The corner of each leg will need a small cove milled down it's length...it is the non tapered corner..the one that will show.. The other corners of the legs will need a small champfer edge...maybe done will a block plane.. Option #4...mill either a bead, or a small cove along the bottom edges of the Aprons.. Just a simple, little table/

November 28, 2025Nov 28 Author Popular Post Had time to kill yesterday morning..before the long road trip for dinner...so..went with Option #1.. Made a mess on the floor, too.. MILLERS Falls No. 15 Jumbo Jack...flatten both faces...then smooth things over with the No. 62.... Ends needed squared up.. Set up a Guide fence..for.. Measured from the side of the saw's blade to the edge of the saw's foot...Framer's Square to mark across to aline the fence..I merely had to keep the saw vertical and pressed against the fence, and make a cut...turn the panel end for end, and repeat... Ends needed a tongue milled... But this bit did not need a fence to run against...first cut was a hair deeper than I want...but.. Imagine this one...a Harbor Freight rebate bit in a Craftsman Router... I used a rip fence to make the tongues a bit longer..as the bit only goes to 1/2".... Then set up the tablesaw to mill a almost matching groove.....I also had cut 2 bread board ends to the same width and length needed.. Then a dry fit or 4..until the ends fit.. Hmmm, one more try..then, glue and clamps.. May take off the clamps, today, and clean this thing up...need to cut a curve onto each corner... Stay tuned..
