June 26, 2025Jun 26 Popular Post Well, got June's project done, so....need something to do in July, next. Have about 10' of 1 x 6 Soft Maple leftover.....and these 3 slabs.. Yes, there are 3 slabs sitting there... These were sawn off of a small log, one after another... Hmmm, that knot will just have to leave...yes, they do line up..No.3 slab? I do NOT do Live Edge Projects, sorry......will have to see how much is left after the bark has gone... Grain is called Cathedrals..... Hmmm...we'll see what we can cobble up... Stay tuned..
June 29, 2025Jun 29 Author Popular Post Well..got to start somewhere....so.. Hauled one plank to the shop, laid a straightedge on the face, laid out where to make a few cuts.. Cross cut right where the wider part met the narrow section...Pencil line ? I needed one straight edge to rub against the rip fence on the table saw...edges needed a bit more work... Ohio Tool Co. No. 0-5 was a bit too short as a Jointer...installed a SHARP iron in the Stanley No. 6c.... How sharp? Not too bad..? Then run the jointed edges through the tablesaw... bring the next plank to the shop...and..cut out the "Middleman".. Same with Plank #3...Ends needed a "trim" Both #2 and #3.. Handsome, ain't he? Lets see,, I wound up with a stack of 1 x 2s.. A stack of 1 x 4s... And a single 3/4" x 6" plank...seems plank #1 had already been planed before I bought it...so, NOW the rest of the "Stash" needs to be resawn down to match The single WIDE one will get ripped down the center...note the huge knot inside that red circle.... Then the toes started to cramp up...even with the shop fan set on HIGH... Letting the Dryer get done this evening, BEFORE I head back to the shop...as I haven't even swept the floor, yet.. Stay tuned...

June 29, 2025Jun 29 Popular Post My July project is hoping to be a wobble table lamp. Might call it Weeble, but I believe that name is trademarked. Hope is to allow the lamp to tip/lean but never fall over. Thinking a ring of shallow pockets around the base will allow moving a 1" steel ball to whichever direction you want the light to lean. Going to set the shade on a marble so it will naturally level itself no matter how the lamp leans. 4D

July 2, 2025Jul 2 Author Ok...Single Brain Cell Sketch Up...has come up with a Plan Revision...That "back panel"? Is to be the door of the box...New Back Panel will be Soft Maple. Base will also be Soft Maple...Sides will still connect at the corners, with 1/4" wide Finger Joints...Top will sit in a groove in the back and 2 sides, ending where the slope of the door is.. Have the bevel the edges of both the "Top" and the "Front" to allow the door to settle in place..Door MIGHT get a 3/8" Overlay as well..we'll see how things go.. Stay tuned
July 2, 2025Jul 2 Author Popular Post Soft Maple, tends to burn when the rip blade gets dull.. Managed to get 2 panels made today...toasty one, and.. Not so toasty...have 2 others to cut for length...a "Top" And the very front of the box.. Just that the tablesaw was busy.. And, I was too sore to take the time to sweep the place...
July 3, 2025Jul 3 Author Popular Post WalMart this morning...new wrist Watch...and a new 24 toothed 8-1/4" rip blade, Carbide teeth and all...fits MY tablesaw...Then went across the road and got me ears lowered to Army Regs.... July 4, 2025Jul 4 Author Popular Post One done.. This is to be the base of the Bread Box...7 pieces of Soft maple, trying to look like a single plank... Taking today off...letting the lower back rest up a bit....
July 5, 2025Jul 5 Author Well...50 grit was taking way too long, and the beltsander was trying to overheat...so.. Trip to Harbor Freight, bought a 3-pak of 36 grit belts...and gave them a try..the "Before" Panels need to be sanded flat on BOTH faces,,and then, the "After" Same with the Ash panels.. I also used a handplane in spots.. Taking down any speed bumps... Got all 4 panels leveled down flat...went back and smooth all 5 panels out at 80 grit...Then cross cut things to correct size..and ripped to correct width... I even cross cut the Front and Top pieces to length...then stack the mess up..for now.. And they can sit here, until I get ready to start the Joinery stuff.. Stay tuned...
