Well, it IS 2300 hrs, somewhere, right? So..figured out the angle the lid for the Bread Box will be sitting at when closed up...laid that out on both of the side panels..and band sawed the lines.

Well..got to start somewhere....so..:ChinScratch:

JulyProject.startup1stplank.jpg.fca0c1eadc106d44d4d25cb615a795a6.jpg

Hauled one plank to the shop, laid a straightedge on the face, laid out where to make a few cuts..:ChinScratch:

JulyProjectstartupremains.jpg.4d10c90908d39887dcca7229475f8203.jpg

Cross cut right where the wider part met the narrow section...Pencil line ?:WonderScratch:

JulyProjectstartupneedstraightedge.jpg.66efca9d07039c8f2f417c22f9da0c17.jpg

I needed one straight edge to rub against the rip fence on the table saw...edges needed a bit more work...:OldManSmiley:

JulyProjectstartupjackplanededge.jpg.f0ebc2c662d0c27010fbb357fb8a20ee.jpg

Ohio Tool Co. No. 0-5 was a bit too short as a Jointer...installed a SHARP iron in the Stanley No. 6c....

JulyProjectstartupjointededge.jpg.bc6e478c0101a55b9c1faa7512fe0b86.jpg

How sharp?:WonderScratch:

JulyProjectstartupshavings.jpg.abb16671f837afd854bfd0d03949f1d2.jpg

Not too bad..?:ChinScratch:

Then run the jointed edges through the tablesaw... bring the next plank to the shop...and..cut out the "Middleman"..:MachineGun:

JulyProjectstartupbadcenter.jpg.8b29688ea43d59b86922174477845251.jpg

Same with Plank #3...Ends needed a "trim":ChinScratch:

JulyProjectstartupneedstrimmedoff.jpg.02df282529871e3d19560b10b360e477.jpg

Both #2 and #3..:OldManSmiley:

JulyProjectstartup.badend.jpg.a0bcd143bea26850f6c65566190ec7d7.jpg

Handsome, ain't he?:JawDrop:

Lets see,, I wound up with a stack of 1 x 2s..:ChinScratch:

JulyProjectstartupnarrowones.jpg.068765f03f72985454c18f641a6f555f.jpg

A stack of 1 x 4s...:OldManSmiley:

JulyProjectstartupsixmediums.jpg.3a40f0c67587a17ca642a042e833a373.jpg

And a single 3/4" x 6" plank...seems plank #1 had already been planed before I bought it...so, NOW the rest of the "Stash" needs to be resawn down to match:PullingHair:

JulyProjectstartup1wideone.jpg.68c5d37a534cc3f511b15272f776a7a9.jpg

The single WIDE one will get ripped down the center...note the huge knot inside that red circle....:BangingHead:

Then the toes started to cramp up...even with the shop fan set on HIGH...:OldManSmiley:

Letting the Dryer get done this evening, BEFORE I head back to the shop...as I haven't even swept the floor, yet..

Stay tuned...:cowboy:

My July project is hoping to be a wobble table lamp. Might call it Weeble, but I believe that name is trademarked.

Hope is to allow the lamp to tip/lean but never fall over.  Thinking a ring of shallow pockets around the base will allow moving a 1" steel ball to whichever direction you want the light to lean.  Going to set the shade on a marble so it will naturally level itself no matter how the lamp leans. ;)

Ok...Single Brain Cell Sketch Up...has come up with a Plan Revision.:OldManSmiley:..That "back panel"?  Is to be the door of the box...New Back Panel will be Soft Maple.   Base will also be Soft Maple...Sides will still connect at the corners, with 1/4" wide Finger Joints...Top will sit in a groove in the back and 2 sides, ending where the slope of the door is.. Have the bevel the edges of both the "Top" and the "Front" to allow the door to settle in place..Door MIGHT get a 3/8" Overlay as well..we'll see how things go..:ChinScratch:

Stay tuned :cowboy:

Soft Maple, tends to burn when the rip blade gets dull..

JulyProjectPanelsMorepanels.jpg.b776c6defaec958b705d98ce7b7603a8.jpg

Managed to get 2 panels made today...toasty one, and..

JulyProjectPanelsBaseofCase.jpg.d50b82b48d13b6924188ee28aff2c229.jpg

Not so toasty...have 2 others to cut for length...a "Top"

JulyProjectPanelsTopofcase.jpg.83f84a4b78d8cc832c98e417aff896ba.jpg

And the very front of the box..

JulyProjectPanelsFrontpanel.jpg.e72cf50ea08f2a8cb395161ed220ccf9.jpg

Just that the tablesaw was busy..

JulyProjectPanelsMessyshop.jpg.791ee253cc01077aa67ee9b7a471cc79.jpg

And, I was too sore to take the time to sweep the place...

Panel for the Base has been flattened...not smooth, but it is flat...50 grit sanding belt...taking too long..:Tapping:..may get a few at 36 grit...as I have 4 more panels to flatten both faces on.:ChinScratch:..My back said that was enough for today:ArguingSmileys:..waiting on the dryer to get done....hopefully I can haul the Hamper back upstairs...:WonderScratch:

One done..

JulyProjectPanelsBaseflattened.jpg.d036aaff81392a3076102a2f8fbbdb40.jpg

This is to be the base of the Bread Box...7 pieces of Soft maple, trying to look like a single plank...

Taking today off...letting the lower back rest up a bit....

  • Author

Well...50 grit was taking way too long, and the beltsander was trying to overheat...so..:ChinScratch:

Trip to Harbor Freight, bought a 3-pak of 36 grit belts...and gave them a try..the "Before":JawDrop:

JulyProjectSanderworkbefore.jpg.916cd5f9cd2f30331c26b2ce7deaf8ba.jpg

Panels need to be sanded flat on BOTH faces,,and then, the "After"

JulyProjectSanderworkAfterBackpanel.jpg.74e8596789fb2ce31ee441098bbb6fad.jpg

Same with the Ash panels..:ChinScratch:

JulyProjectSanderworkBeforeAshpanel.jpg.863539dab872bf6e86724a7968afcae3.jpg

I also used a handplane in spots..:JawDrop:

JulyProjectSanderworkLeveling.jpg.cbc0071618b8df24df08b9471dd08fa8.jpg

Taking down any speed bumps...:ChinScratch:

JulyProjectSanderworkLidsmoothed.jpg.c209c9bfde45c657a600474f56b14326.jpg

Got all 4 panels leveled down flat...went back and smooth all 5 panels out at 80 grit...Then cross cut things to correct size..and ripped to correct width...:Cheer:

I even cross cut the Front and Top pieces to length...then stack the mess up..for now..

JulyProjectSanderworkalldone.jpg.87724d2ef33b6111924577a61890c04f.jpg

And they can sit here, until I get ready to start the Joinery stuff..:Tapping:

Stay tuned...:cowboy:
