August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post According to my phone it's that _ _ _ day of the week again. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're still trying to work around the rain. Get a few days that are dry enough to do things, and then wait for things to dry up enough to do anything again. Doesn't look like today is going to be one of those days that allows one to do much. Since I can't do much outside today I'll be trying to figure out if I can scrounge up enough used materials to build something like this on a trailer chassis, I've had sitting around for a couple of years that has an 8' X 15' cargo box floor for its deck. (If it's portable it doesn't require a building permit and doesn't affect the property taxes ) With that I'll leave it at, What's On Your Weekend Agenda? Edited August 16, 20241 yr by Larry Buskirk
August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post Nice greenhouse, Larry! We have a similar ordinance. If it's fastened to the ground, it requires a permit and it's taxed. Mine sets on concrete blocks . We've had a week of rain free weather after "Debbie" passed through but the weekend is to be showery. The remaining days of August are supposed to be slightly cooler than average.

That "Plastic" greenhouse/shed I put up a couple of years ago is not holding up well to the weather. The trailer chassis has a thick wood deck so hopefully will take the weight of the zero-turn better. 55 minutes ago, lew said: Mine sets on concrete blocks Considered a permanent structure here. Has to be on either drag-skids, or wheels. That's not saying we can't use blocking to level it, but it has to have either of the above.
August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post After 2.4" of rain in the last 18 hours and more forecasted through Sunday, outdoor activities will be limited. Wife's brother and his wife are here from Pennsylvania. SIL's mother is in a long-term health care facility near here and not doing well so we're hoping to get a couple short visits in with them. Monthly men's breakfast tomorrow AM; church Sunday. Still have a couple totes of "bonus" treasures to unload from auction PU. Not sure what to do with "stuff?" Anyone need a 15?", 3 knife, planer head? Unknown manufacturer. On-going repair, refurb, and maintenance on various pieces of powered L&G equipment; looks like I'll need it after the rain. There goes that darn squirrel again...anyone else see it?
August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post The harder I go the behinder I get. Had 1.5 inches rain yesterday, first drops in over 3 weeks. Got the screen covers built and installed for son's shed finally after over a year. . Have a woodturners meeting tomorrow. Now something to think about is that water that ran down the sidewalk yesterday and into the shop.Ditch or drain .

Some folks upgrade to the insert cutterhead and hang on (for some reason) to the old one, often trying to sell it. I've been visiting 4-5 woodworking forums since 1998 and only once in that time did I see someone sell one.

If your L&G equipment is like mine that's a never-ending process. 57 minutes ago, Grandpadave52 said: There goes that darn squirrel again...anyone else see it? Yep! He's getting ready to attack the bird feeder again.
August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post We started removing the sod for our cottage garden and realized that 1) we are too old for this kind of labor (2) we bit of more than we can chew, & (3) where are we going to dispose of all this sod. We agreed that being young physically & being young at heart are entirely different. We have a friend whose brother owns a land scaping company that agreed to finish the work for us. We will do the planting.

August 16, 20241 yr Popular Post Yep, like Lew...BTDT. In my case it was the aging thing that made those jobs a lot harder than they should be.
August 16, 20241 yr Author Popular Post @DuckSoup Yeah, I'm not as fast as I ussta was either. Think I might go out and dig up that Virginia Mountain Mint I found and move it. Only if I can remember where I left the shovel. Naw on second thought I'll let somebody else feed the mosquitos.
August 16, 20241 yr Author Popular Post I found the shovel and the mosquitos found me. Too steamy out there anyway.
August 17, 20241 yr Popular Post Took the Boss on a Garage Sale Raid....she spends $10 on a Mini Corn Hole Set... And I spend $4.50 on... Was one of THOSE days....
August 17, 20241 yr Popular Post You guys can send some of that rain to North Texas, it has been in the low 100s all week here. As for what I have planned for the weekend I will be organizing some things in my garage/shop. Will post some pictures later.

It's been one of the wettest summers we've had in a long while particularly in our section of the county. Another storm front is about 30 minutes out. Looks like it's rain laden as well. Seems like we don't get those 1/2"-1" rains over a 12-24 hour period then move on anymore. Fronts (low pressures) just seem to hang on for 4 or 5 days at a time and have mostly been centered in East Central Illinois/ West Central Indiana. On the positive side, with the rain, heat and humidity we've had one of our best producing gardens ever. I picked 4+ gallons of green beans in about 45 minutes tonight and barely made a dent. This is the 5th picking and we still have lots of blooms. I'd harvested probably 4-5 pounds of tomatoes earlier; they're really just starting to ripen. A couple of the yellow ones were nearly as big as softballs.

August 17, 20241 yr Popular Post That's a nice plan for the greenhouse @Larry Buskirk - but then you mention parking the zero turn in it? It's Saturday AM, the client for the window sash is supposed to show up this morning. The sash has six lites in it. We should be able to complete the four mirrored sections today. The remaining two lites will be glass with a photo in one and the plays playbill in the second. He is not sure when he will have those. We may just go ahead and wing it to get the glass etched... A little touch up painting outside today also in the mix. Sunday looks to be an aggravating day of car diagnoses. Julie's old lemon that we gave her sister. Deal made when we gave it to her - it's a freaking lemon, you can have it, I don't want to see it or work on it again... welp, all the brakes lights on the dash are lit up and now it's up to me to diagnose it. Ah well... I have said that I am in no shape today to actually work on it. We'll see how that goes.
