Friday July 19th, 2024-What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Featured Replies

:ChinScratch: Friday again.

Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we've been enjoying the past few cooler less humid days before the heat/humidity returns. :D

Also been mowing around the standing water areas from the 6+ inches of rain from the week before.

Not sure what I'll be doing for the weekend other than mowing those areas as they dry out.

So with that, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

The weather is allowing me to do some yard work, so most of the weekend will be spent outside.

Went to therapy this morning and got a good workout for my back. Came home and took a nap after that.

Air Conditioner died in the shop and went to HomeDepot yesterday to get a new one. Got to see if I can find some help getting it installed since I'm not suppose to be lifting anything yet.

Got some rain this morning and will most likely need to do some mowing this weekend. He did release me to finally get on the mower.

Other than that, I plan on spending a little time at the shooting range and some time indoors watching the The Open golf tournament.

Wow that's a packed weekend!!

Doing finish work on a box for AAW exchange. Have a woodturners meeting tomorrow and starting to prep for procedure on Monday. Hope to test a couple pellet guns from the estate today also.

Theater set - two two story cabins, one platform, one "pier"/dock that goes over the orchestra pit and must be lowered and raised and have cushions on both sides, and a wall of TV screens.  Not all one day

Back on the mower this afternoon. After a good start yesterday the mower stranded me about 500' from the garage when the hydro pump drive belt failed. About 3 hours later and ~101 trips back and forth to the garage, a new transmission belt and new PTO drive belts were on. Mowed until about 8P before it became too wet; need to grease mower and install a new set of blades before starting today.

Monthly Men's breakfast tomorrow AM, then a recycle center run, oil/filter change, service granddaughters car. Church responsibilities Sunday. Might watch some of the Brickyard race. Any plans for donut purchases or consumption TBD.

Change oil & rotate tires on my truck, maybe tonight if I can swing it.

Work on some of my long promised custom work tomorrow - shortening G3 handguards - then get my grip production restarted.  I got the latest batch to the scary part and stalled there (pattern routing 1.5" thick end grain, scary, at least to me).  Maybe if that all goes well I will be all invigorated to start on a plant stand for the girlfriend :D

It has been a crazy week.  A quick flight and a long drive from Midland TX to get a truck.
Interestingly, I haven’t been to Midland since I pulled a funeral detail there in 89 while I was in AIT.

This weekend I will be rearranging the garage and making some room.  It is nice having something I can move stuff like wood with.

Back to basics here.

Julie and I just returned from our first "big" train trip, Atlanta to Syracuse NY to attend family funerals, a "small-ish" family reunion and a lot of visiting.  The return trip took us to Ohio to spend July 4th with son, DIL & her parents - then on to Chicago, New Orleans and back to Atlanta.  30 days on the trip, just over 3,000 miles by rail...

I (we) learned a good deal about train travel.

I learned a bit about car rental.

I learned a bit about bus travel.

The stops along the way were wonderful, the travel was "good" with a couple glitches.

Upon our return - it had only rained once while we were gone  and had not rained for nearly three weeks prior to our leaving.  Our lawn was just about totally dead, burned to a crisp. :(  This past week we've had two good rains which has revived the bermuda grass and it needs cutting.  I did all the trimming and edging yesterday so that I can mow today.

And, making plans for a train trip to the west coast!

Upon my getting into TPW the first thing I noticed was several new members contributing to the conversation.  Welcome aboard y'all - sorry to have missed the introductions and donuts, but glad to have you aboard

Nice truck, Static.

Painters finished up yesterday around 16:00. Today's jobs will be installing a new TV on the wall, re installing curtain hangers on 8 windows, hanging a bunch of pictures, moving furniture back in new places as per Phyl's directions. The new sectional couch and and dining table will arrive Monday. We need to move another old couch out of the house, possibly to the dump.

It's going to be busy day for us old folks. And, it'll be 109° and muggy.

No need to feel sorry Dave, they would be stale by now anyhow... and I picked up about 5 pounds without them!  I tried to avoid this, but upstate NY diners being what they are - good food & big portions... not to mention all the other contributors to that.  Pretty sure I can shed these extra and avoid them on the next go around, at least I hope I can.

:ChinScratch:@Cal Must have picked up the 5 pounds I lost. :P

(Normal summer weight loss, I'll gain it back come winter)

If you really want to mow, ours is more than ready again after the 6+ inches of rain from the week before. ;)
