:ChinScratch: Doesn't sound like a half bad idea, they get used for CNC work, SketchUp, etc.. What say @John Morris

:throbbinghead:

Only problem would be us underground types.

I'm not using any SSDs. Have three 1.8TB HDDs. The boot drive is using less then 125G (OS, Recovery, Boot and reserve) with 116 programs installed. The second HDD is for data storage and the third is for weekly backups using Acronis True Image.

I have a bunch of unallocated space on the C drive that I could add for the OS to use but just haven't done it. OS speed is good so I'm happy.

I think my HDDs are WD. Used to get all my stuff from Tiger Direct but I see they are no longer in business. Still get stuff from Newegg.

Are those 1.8TB drives 2TB's that Windows reports as 1.8TB?

I'll go with the 500GB SSD for just the OS. I've got to get back into the habit of doing backups.

I've got a Seagate 500GB Backup Plus USB 3.0 portable drive that Bruce found "Curb Shopping" that was still new in the sealed box until I opened it.

Tiger Direct has been gone for awhile now, I miss their catalogs. Usually get a few emails a day from Newegg, but usually for their high end stuff that I can find better deals on elsewhere if I'm looking for it.

Forgot to mention that Bruce asked me if I knew what that Seagate Backup Plus drive was when he showed it to me.

I answered him yeah, mine. ;)

Yes.

I have a WD 500G portable USB 3 drive that I use to backup the OS. I am not too faithful at doing that. I try to do it a couple of times a year. But I do keep all the data backed up weekly. The Acronis program sends me an email with the results.

I'm basically using a couple/few generations ago :OldManSmiley: lightly used parts I've stashed as I part out machines that are still compatable with current hardware along with the minimum amount of new parts I'd need to put together a machine capable of running W11.

My cousin just supplied that minimum amount of new parts (12 pin TPM card in mail) other than a CPU but I'm going to use the NIB Ryzen 5 3400G I got from him awhile back (Year or so ago) to upgrade a W10 machine that also now because of a motherboard BIOS size limit can't be flashed to prevent recent security threats. The motherboard in the W10 machine was just recently removed from MS's W11 "Approved Hardware Compatability List".

:ChinScratch: Wonder if I could get the Chrome OS to load on those no longer on MS's W11 "Approved Hardware Compatabilty List" parts. :WonderScratch:

That's a thought. I wonder if they will have more stringent hardware requirements for the new paid version of "Chrome browser". I think the OS Flex will run on just about anything.

I have an old Lenovo laptop that runs W10 and is not compatible with W11. Been tempted to do the security bypass and bump it to W11. Only thing I'm really concerned about is the touch screen drivers and future updates. I only use it for occasional troubleshooting and to run my elcheapo laser engraver.

The Windows Insider membership W11 version downloads run on virtually any machine- no security restrictions. So far any software apps I have tried work with the insider versions

I'm running XP Pro on an old Dell D430 that I changed out the old PATA drive for an SSD that I use for running automotive GM Tech2 and Honda Diagnostic software.

It seems as though the GM Tech2 software doesn't care to much for the later OS's.

This is all very intriguing and well above my pay grade, BUT, will any of these electronic gadgets successfully cut a hot dog?

XP was such a robust OS that it was integrated into many commercial applications. It was just recently I noticed the veterinarian's office software had finally upgraded.

:ChinScratch: IDK, we're retar retired so there is no pay grade, but I've got a 80mm 110V server fan that could probably turn an all beef hot dog back into hamburger pretty quickly. ;)
