Can't be a common occurrence or the craft shows would have stopped somewhere along the way.  I have sold very little but have given thousands of items away.  Fortunately I prefer a smiling face as profit for my endeavors.  Most common crafting folks don't have enough money for the lawyers to expect a fair profit if you were to be sued.  Tome is money for them.
