December 24, 20232 yr Author comment_326463 My carving is coming along but I'm not pleased with the way the basswood is leaving "whiskers" from my carving. Even scraping the wood does not remove these whiskers. Would using a propane torch, very carefully, burn these away. I'm also thinking that displaying this shell upside down is the better of the two ways to display it when done???? Happy Holidays to everyone! Report
December 26, 20232 yr Author Popular Post comment_326641 My carving of the Reggio shell is almost complete. I need to do a little more touch-up on the carving. Now onto the gilding/painting/plaque portion of this project. Report

December 26, 20232 yr comment_326656 Looks awesome Rick. I wasn't so sure about changing the orientation until I see the carving finished. You've made a believer out of me. Your attention to the details is amazing. Report
December 28, 20232 yr Author comment_326738 I decided to make a rectangular plaque and see how it would look. I'm turning a circular plaque tomorrow to see how that would look. Whichever on that I choose, I'll be able to use the other plaque for my next carving project. Which orientation looks best??? Report
December 29, 20232 yr comment_326742 Have to agree with @lew, the top one; anyway with the rectangle plaque. Report
December 29, 20232 yr comment_326745 I also agree with Lew on the first one. It seems to point to the heavens. Report
December 29, 20232 yr comment_326760 I like the first orientation best myself. That said, being the odd duck that I am - I might use two hangers on it so that it could be hung in either orientation. I would make a point to tell visitors that it was hung to point towards the clouds. Then in a couple months I would turn it around to see if anyone notices But that's just me... Report

December 29, 20232 yr Author comment_326794 Circular plaque turned and now to compare the rectangular vs. circular look. Opinions welcomed! Report
December 29, 20232 yr comment_326796 I really like the symmetry of the round plaque. My vote still is for the top view of this set. Edited December 29, 20232 yr by Grandpadave52 Report
December 29, 20232 yr Popular Post comment_326804 I'm for the top view, although I'm waiting for left and right rotations just to make sure. Report
