  • Here's the start of my carving project. This will have to worked on during rainy/cold weather. The backside has already been carved for relief of the lower shell-lobes and now the front can be done.

Project completed, except for finding a place on the wall for it. Onto the next carving from Southern Italy!

  • Neat!  You have to wonder who was buried under that skull!

I really like the round plaque Frederick, contributes to it rather than just showing it off

Always fascinating to watch you do carvings ! Truly the most creative skill in woodworking. And I think that was a church for pirates.

Gesso applied and dried. I've applied a coat of sizing to the plaque rim and will be laying down the gold leaf soon.L1070859.JPG.561885c14cce2cab5c2d4e2aa474ebb0.JPG

Black gesso?

No, just the background/contrast color of the plaque. Everything that's gold color will get gilded.

This one is going to be awesome with the gilding. The round plaque was a great choice in my opinion.

Here's my last comment on this post? The large scallop shell came from a late lunch that we had in Scilla, Italy. I had seen that a couple were eating seafood out of the biggest scallop shells that I had seen and I asked the owner of the restaurant if I could "buy" one. He said no, but would give me one. So, it came home with me!!! It's next to some "normal" scallop shells that came from Nantucket.

That's a full meal size:Eat:
