December 24, 20232 yr Author My carving is coming along but I'm not pleased with the way the basswood is leaving "whiskers" from my carving. Even scraping the wood does not remove these whiskers. Would using a propane torch, very carefully, burn these away. I'm also thinking that displaying this shell upside down is the better of the two ways to display it when done???? December 28, 20232 yr Author I decided to make a rectangular plaque and see how it would look. I'm turning a circular plaque tomorrow to see how that would look. Whichever on that I choose, I'll be able to use the other plaque for my next carving project. Which orientation looks best???
December 29, 20232 yr I like the first orientation best myself. That said, being the odd duck that I am - I might use two hangers on it so that it could be hung in either orientation. I would make a point to tell visitors that it was hung to point towards the clouds. Then in a couple months I would turn it around to see if anyone notices But that's just me...
