I found this video absolutely fascinating. And it reminded me of our very own Luthier @Woodman. I know he's a maker and perhaps he can relate to some of this build if not all of it. I am sure Luthier's have differing views on how to execute certain areas of a build.

Might get a decent day to work on the projects only if the other things needed to work on the vehicles don't show up. 

A day of organization.  Well, this is actually day #3. Sorting lumber by species, thickness and, size. That jumbled mess it was is now arranged so I can find stuff. Then, small tools are next. My benches are definitely in need of work. Tools scattered everywhere. My severe ADD really needs to be brought under control. Need some adult dosages of Ritilen, maybe. Just kidding. That's truly some nasty stuff. 

After the week long cleaning event, errands on Saturday, then after church yesterday and lunch at my wife's favorite Mexican restaurant it was time for a siesta. The heavy overcast sky with numerous rain showers made it even easier to enjoy the first nap in the new recliner.

 

Once the fog fully burns off today plenty of options. Maintenance on 2 mowers; probably attempt to mow this week? Lots of yard and outside maintenance to perform yet.

 

Football game mid week, plus an errand day to Boilertown. Perhaps some fun shop time will be found. We'll see.

Having my siblings over this weekend.  Need to clean the place up a little.  More Fall clean-up to do too.

Marie's recovery from surgery continues to go well and I can venture out to the yard and shop for brief periods. Tomorrow I see a surgeon about my hernia and later this week have several more errands to run. Fall/winter prep in the yard has come to a halt pending some rain.

Monday?   Monday?  leave it at that....

Beautifully day here today after 1.5" rain yesterday. I think that is more than we received all summer!

 

Maybe get to finish up a platter and start another.

Managed to get the Larkin desk cabinet stripped before the Factory Service Manual for Bruce's Astro showed up. 

 I think I'm about to get a headache. 

little exterior painting today and tomorrow (have to let some caulk cure, it's paintable) for a dear friend.  no way she could manage it.

CLARIFICATION:

 

John, if I'm given all of the pieces, I can put together something that resembles a fiddle and maybe even sounds like one. And fabricate missing pieces, patch a bite out of a top, etc  But I'm not a maker 

 

I know just enough to be dangerous But am cautious enough to stay away from anything worth more than $15,000 or so

Respect still! I know an instrument repair friend of ours, violins mainly, like you. I have an idea of what it takes to make these instruments sing again.

 Mine will be too once I start tracing that fuel injector shut down problem with what probably amounts to a LA phone book worth of Factory Service Manual. 

A somewhat successful run to Atlanta over the weekend.  My big project was to install a glass shower door.  My chinglish isn't the greatest and I struggled somewhat.  The final straw for me on that was to cut the top "rail" to fit between the walls.  Said rail was a stout 1 1/4" tube.  I had a hacksaw and flat file to smooth the cut.  Went well until I put it in place.  They didn't really mean to cut to fit between the walls... they meant to cut to fit between two bracket pieces that are up on the wall.  Need to cut about another 1/2" off and smooth it again.  That will wait until the next trip up and I can take a jig saw up with me.  Julie & Elizabeth and SO made good  progress on painting while I was translating the install instructions.

 

Week ahead - lawn care.  Need to do a good job this week, Julie plans to do a yard sale this weekend.  I've a bunch of stuff going in it too.  Glass is here for my display cabinet, but unlikely at this point I will get the etching and install done this week.

At least it wasn't too short. I had a bath remodel done by a contractor that cut the rail too short and felt it was my job to call the company and get a replacement.

The ability to lie repeatedly about how much you make. "$40 an hour" in reality, is $4 an hour . . . 

 

I spent months getting the pieces of a 1950s Framus student cello back together. It's lowest string didn't entirely boom like the rest, but it would still have been the best cello in the high-school orchestra. When a ninth grader chose it, and her parents (dad, grudgingly) paid, that was the best $4/hr I ever made.

Jim's preferred options ...

 

1] make a sandwich, return to the recliner

2] get a nice glass of iced tea, return to the recliner

3] walk out to the post box, return to the recliner . . . 

 Looks like I might get a reprieve, it's raining here. Only problem is that also leaves out the picnic table workbench.
