July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post One of the few times I have been able to come in on Monday and report "mission accomplished" I do need to back up a bit. Our son came in Friday week ago to spend the week with us. He was remote working, so his days were eat up by that but in the late afternoon/evenings we visited and had a great time just being together. One afternoon while he was working I spent my day cleaning up the woods, burning fallen branches and such and tossed on a few pieces of firewood for a bed of coals. James really enjoys cooking over open coals and that night he fixed paella, broccolini, shrimp & sausages. Good dog gone eating!!! One night we cut new decals to dress up the wife's new wheels. And on Saturday, James rode with me to a car show down the road a ways. He didn't stay the day, as he left out for Ohio at noon. But we had a great visit. I finished the afternoon with a third place in the Mopar division. Edit - I forgot yesterday! Church AM, followed by a wedding and lunch reception afterwards. A good friend our ours who lost his wife a couple years ago remarried. In the afternoon I mowed the lawn and then down to Julie's sister for supper and visit with an out-of-town family friend who is passing through. A very busy weekend. And a busy week ahead also... July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post It's Monday...leave it at that....Managed to pick up a "new" jack plane over the weekend.. Spent a whopping $5 on it...then an hour in the Rehab shop.... And ready for work....Stanley No. 5, Type 14...with the SW iron...
July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post @Cal...whew busy week and weekend for sure. Sounds like you had a great visit with James. Nice trophy for 3rd place. Didn't realize you had that much wooded area...sweet. Garage floor turned out really nice. Cabinets looking good. @steven newman...sweet score on the Bailey SW. Nice rehab.
July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Have a visit with a dear friend planned for today. Rest of the week is up for grabs.
July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Saturday was a washout, but Sunday turned out to be suitable for outside. So, I took the time to make a complete fool out of myself with no one watching. I had replaced the post hole digger for the tractor with a different, more capable unit. The original one I had wasn't that good a worker and earlier this month I couldn't get it to cut the hard, dry clay at all. This is a top flight, American made unit. Anyway, I sold it and bought another, one made in China....but for what little I do with them I figured it would be just the ticket. Anway, mounted it up and went to work on a second post hole I needed. The repalcement worked so well I completely screwed it into the ground before I could disengage the PTO, about 36" deep! The tractor couldn't pull it out, and I couldn't unscrew it with a pipe wrench and 2' cheater. So I had to dig it....about a 3 hour job with a backhoe. Talk about feeling stupid, one of those "live and learn" moments.
July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Phyl is sedated and, in surgery. Don't know how long in recovery. Hopefully, she won't need an overnight stay.

July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Managed to get a few small things done Friday-Sunday. Out early Saturday for men's breakfast then a few errands. Swelling 99% gone from my eye, but remains red and still itches. I will admit I was a slug yesterday after church. IDK if it was the weather, smoke filled aired or??? but felt exhausted. Week ahead, some talk about attending the county fair which opened Friday. Looks like the grass will need mowed soon and time to string trim again. Some other projects on tap depending on weather. Got a new OBDII scanner during Prime Days, so need to first get updates installed then test. If I'm smart enough, need to reprogram the Buicks TPMS, so wheel sensors match actual positions. Sadly, for second time in 3 weeks, currently watching the funeral for another fallen officer. Deputy John Durm, Marion County (Indy area) was attacked and killed by a prisoner (a murder suspect from a previous crime) he was transporting. 38 year, veteran; Leaves behind 4 sons; two of which were on active duty overseas, one currently going through the MCSO academy. His father and brothers were also officers. Third officer killed this month in the line of duty in our state. Where are the public outrage and condemnations across our nation now? Thank-you Officer Durm for your faithful service. RIP; 10-42 EOW. Edited July 17, 20232 yr by Grandpadave52
July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Had a great woodturning club meeting Saturday. Had 3 lathes going and people asking questions and watching all three plus a carving and woodburning station like wise. Yesterday church and rest. Did get son into shop to help me reverse the air cleaners so I can turn the Jet on by remote when I come in the door. Boy talk about some dust on the tops of those.

It's not the nation we live in anymore. In a country where we have an entire month dedicated to "insert race or sexual identity" here, yet only one day dedicated to the men and women who died for our nation (Memorial Day). It appears our First Responders are just cannon fodder anymore.

July 17, 20232 yr Popular Post made a small bowl, out of 1 piece of wood this morning, birthday present for a friend. 142???? c'mon man....yer just showing off!!!! very nice though. i use Howard's butcher block finish for my bowls, food safe, and way easy to put on. no risk of dust settling onto the last coat and messing it up. yeah, i can be lazy.

Phyl's heart valve replacement surgery went very smoothly. As of yesterday noon, she's up and about. She did need to stay in hospital for another night. She'll be home today.Modern medicine is wonderful. It was a long haul, with the myriad of pre op tests her surgeons requested. But, it turned out well.
