Kleen Strip sells DNA. Found it at a local mom and pop hardware. Tractor supply carries it, too.

I just did an on line search at my closest Lowe's, they have quarts & gallons in stock.  Maybe Kevin just needed to cross the state line :D

OUCH!!! Fred idk why I can't find it anywhere near me. Kinda disappointing to be honest. The Naphtha seemed have worked. I had to open the garage door and wear my respirator because of the fumes.

Rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol has way too much water in it to use with shellac. Grain Alcohol or DNA are the only options I know to be effective.

Maybe that is what I was thinking about the water content. Thank you for the clarification.

Mineral spirits is a petroleum distillate, if it had water in it it would all be in the bottom of the can. I always use it to wipe the sanding dust off as well as check for any hidden glue spots. That said, I've never used Rubio and it may effect how that finish turns turns out. I'm curious why there isn't any DNA available....I hope that doesn't turn out to be the next thing in short supply.

You and me both!!

True story - one of our older local farmers came in to see me one day at the office.  I had been told that in his younger days he used to make and transport a fair amount of corn squeezings - up to Tennessee.  That day, as he stood up to leave, I asked him - Mr. Albert, is it true what I heard about you?  What's that he asked?  I heard you used to run "stuff" up to TN, and had to pay off all the cops & deputies along the way.  Well, he said as he put both his hands in his bib overall pockets... "they never did pay them boys enough"!

He was quite a character, I've never forgotten my conversation with him :D

Nice...In my social worker days I had a patient who was a moonshiner. He had a ton of stories. PBS did a documentary on him. When the Worlds fair was in Knoxville TN he was hired to setup a still and discuss how it worked. "I was suppose to dump it all into a drain, but I had to stay in a hotel." "Spent me whole life running from the revenouers, and now they hire me to setup stills and tell people about the good 'ole days."

Great guy funny as heck.

I thought about Mineral Spirits but I read, and please tell me if I am wrong, that it has water in it and takes longer to dry...

There is now a "Low VOC" paint thinner that is an emulsion of mineral spirits and water.  For refernece, an emulsion is a mixture of one liquid in another in which it is not soluble or miscible.

Here is a good article by Bob Flexner talking about "green" paint thinners, lacquer thinner, etc.  Note that some of the "green" paint thinners are made with acetone that can damage a finish when all you want to do is remove a waxy coating.

When I lived in Wisconsin (where the definition of a small town was one that had only two taverns because any town could get 3 licenses), a group from my church went down to KY on a mission trip.   One of the guys asked a local if he could get him some "bootleg" to take home.  The local agreed and showed up the next day with a paper bag with "bootleg" contents.  He got paid for it and when the friend returned home, he opened it up and found some Bud Light.  It was a dry county, so technically, it was "bootleg."   He learned the difference between moonshine and bootleg

I went to Lowe's this morning and looked for it.  It was with the mineral spirits and other thinners but was listed as ---Fuel--- on the can rather than denatured alcohol.

Previous time I was at Menards they had similar labeled that way but still had DNA too. All in same bin area with Mineral Spirits, Paint Thinner, Acetone, etc; all in the paint/ finishes section. Didn't look this week. Next trip I will and ask reason(s) why

Same here but in much smaller print.  Probably has something to do along the same lines of finding a way to get them to stop  eating Tide Pods.
