A bid like that tells me the dealer doesn't care for jobs like that.

Except they are advertising their services as garage door and opener repairs!

Doing Spring F Arm Fest at the AG for three days. So far has been extremely disappointing financially. All that standing and yesterday was zoned out when I got home. Today much less wore out. Now hoping for a good day tomorrow.

Most importantly, yesterday was our 31st wedding anniversary, I can't believe my lovely wife let me stay around this long, she's got the patience of Job!

Congratulations to you both on your anniversary. Best wishes and prayers for at least 31 more.

Doesn't anyone want to figure this stuff out anymore? Or do they just wanna push new installations on unsuspecting consumers?

If they fix it and something happens the second trip is on them.  Replace it and something happens warranty pays for second trip.  Pay is about the same first trip.  Second trip warranty pays again, winner winner chic.........

A while back I ordered a dust collection device to install on my Bosch 10" SCMS. Yesterday I  attempted to install it. It involved dismantling the present system and, removing several parts. After about an hour of fruitless fiddling and an email to the manufacturer, it turns out they sent me a device for a 12" saw. Now, I have to return it and wait on the correct one.

So, now it's the Skil 77, Shopsmith table saw and a jig saw to complete the scroll saw stand.

With the rain/nasty weather here in L.A. (Lower Alabama), I'll be trying out a new finishing technique,  First time working with shellac.

Those pieces look great Thad.  What are gunstocks usually finished with?  Shellac wouldn't have been my first choice of finish due to the possibility of moisture.  Tell us a bit about the gun; old, recent purchase, family heirloom?

Hey Thad, what type brand is that air rifle? I have a buddy at work who loves collecting them and restoring them. Looks like a fun endeavor.

That's a Benjamin Model 392PA.  Super simple to work on and can deliver a muzzle velocity of around 630 fps depending on ammo type, etc.

I've had the gun for several years,  I don't recall where I got it (probably a flea market somewhere).   It's one of those things you acquire and promise yourself that you'll "work on/restore" but hardly ever finish.  The stock is walnut finished with a varnish.  I'm generally anti-varnish for anything I'll be holding (tool handles, etc.).  The idea for a shellac finish is just because I had ordered some flakes to try out and this is the first project I had that needed a finish. I think I'll post a full process in the finishing sub-forum, but for those who can't wait, here is the finished product with paste wax over shellac......

What caliber is it chambered for Thad? Love the look and short barrel. Nice to carry.

It's a .22 caliber air rifle.  Excellent small game/critter-gitter.

Here we are on our Southern CA snow day, and rare at that!

Hey @John Morris - how has your daddy fared this winter up in the mountains?  I've thought about him often these last couple of months, but not while at the computer...

And speaking of snow day, did you take Jeroid out in the old Ford that day to find a parking lot to do donuts in? :cowboy:

Cal, dad is doing fine, actually I just saw him yesterday, I drove up some supplies and food for him, fortunately I was able to get to his place as the main hwy was plowed and melted, and his little hamlet was melted as well, but very muddy, I slid around a bit in my Ford Focus but made it up with a little patience. He'll be 90 in September and he's still trucking around in the shop, making this and that, and he has some laying hens that he gets eggs from daily. When it snowed last week, he just holed up in his single wide and watched tv, ate a bunch of cookies and drank a bunch of Coca Cola, don't ask me how he's still alive with that diet! But it's working for him.

Jeroid was working through it all so I didn't get a chance to get the ol Ford out for donuts in the mud with him, but I think he has that handled on his own with his buddies, I've heard stories. ;)

Thanks for thinking of Dad Cal!
