October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Good Monday morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! In my shop The weather was beautiful here in So Cal, we had some rain, the temps were cool and cold at night, it's a rarity these days so we just enjoyed it to the hilt. Cool temps equals work in the garage, so I cleaned out and organized the garage/shop, during my dig into the past, I found these two non woodworking related items but interesting and fun. I brought home a haul of wood working tools a couple years ago given to me by a widow, within the boxes resided these two wonderful items that I just discovered this weekend. A fly/reel rod to carry on your shoulders or just hiking into your stream. And a very cool retro .22 rifle cleaning kit, anyway, I thought they were pretty cool. Have a wonderful week ya'll! October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Saturday, after some more sanding, the mesquite round got it's first seal coat of resin, followed by a flood coat. It's now doing it's Dr. thing...curing. Sunday, our sons and, families came by for some delicious grilled Carne Asada (another redundancy, as Carne asada is literally "grilled meat") in tortillas with pico de gallo, and homemade salsa. Followed by a very tasty Chocolate soup. Today, while the first table top is curing, we'll start cleaning the second one. Might get some pics of the process and the new stripping devices. No poles are used.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Here's the assortment of wheels to be used for de nuding the next mesquite round. Along with chisels, the process should be some what faster.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Once I get my tooth fixed, will start work on our cremation remains box.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Thanks for the nod @John Morris. Have some games to make next but going to use the nice weather this week to finish up the yard work.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Finally got some lathe time and rough turned one of two small walnut bowls. Soaking in soap water now. Must do the other one today or tomorrow.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Working to J.O.B this week. Placed an order with Cooks for a few more bowl blanks to try turning some new to me species, Angelique, Pyinma, and Old Growth Redwood. The redwood is salvaged from a tree felled in the 1890's and a log left behind has been sitting on the ground since then. Mrs Boss is throwing a birthday party for me this coming weekend. Officially over-the-hill, Brenham FD is on standby in case that many candles become hazardous. Replaced the rotten and broken plywood ramp attached to the shop with an aluminum one. Repainted the threshold with epoxy primer and painted with some on-hand exterior latex since it was starting to de-laminate. .40 Edited October 24, 20223 yr by forty_caliber
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post A windy weekend here in Las Vegas. I’m continuing on with the cabinets for the Laundry room. It’s going to be a busy week here. We have to renew our CCW permits and probably have to drive over to the boat to supervise the installation of the new davits. Also I have to deal with the Nevada Board of Nursing who have decided that my finger prints have expired ????? Paul
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Busy weekend. Mrs.Grandma Grandpadave caught me on on-line auction site. Pick-up is tomorrow afternoon. I ended up with a couple items...she got a truc full..her first on-line auction. Fortunately PU is within our county. Another auction tomorrow. I need to hide better Holding off on mowing until after the rain. A lot of sticks to harvest first with all the wind we've had. Other outside work ahead of winter to do as well. Mrs Grandma is also on vacation this week; nothing good for me will likely come from that so keep me in your prayers.
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Well..the case NOW has a back on it...due to the fact I worked on a MONDAY And the feet have been leveled. Got a start on the face frame rails.. Top rail..so I can add the top kicker.. Decided to stop while I was ahead....
October 24, 20223 yr Popular Post getting cold, flurries this am, sunny now. time to put hoses away and drain the fountain. fetching gravel tomorrow for our road, 1/2 ton of base course should suffice for the few low spots. i'll use the extra on my place.
October 25, 20223 yr Popular Post asked for a half a yard of base course. actually got one yard of base course. a ton. ugh, now i have to shovel a ton of base course out of my truck bed. got the pot holes i wanted to fill filled up, raked, and tamped down. used the excess to address some areas that could have waited, just a few rocks and dust remain in the bed, will wash out another day, i'm pooped. this is work for a young man....that's not me.
October 26, 20223 yr Popular Post Mrs. & I picked up auction items yesterday afternoon. We traveled a far Southern rural section of our county I honestly can say, I never knew existed. Reminded me of roads and terrain in the Appalachian mountains. Glad I Googled mapped it before leaving home because phone GPS didn't work...no signal available. I was afraid maybe we had gone too far south when we glanced over to a small pasture saw a horse, a mule and oh, a zebra.
