The Crafting of Week 40 began Thursday with timber yard scavenging, then the butchering (sectioning) of a beam with circular saw. Continued Friday with 2.75 hours ∆ Delta table saw action and an excellent vending experience (translation: new friends  ) Saturday. Great head start for this week; small trays just about done.

I'm nearly ready for a clean sweep fore and aft, to begin final assembly of Table No. 5. Heartpine deck, rails, legs. The top is three planks butt-joined, planed, scraped, ready for action. The frame is dado'd to accept the top; I'll rabbet the corners together then sink in a few 1/8" birch dowels. And try not to forget to insert the deck before closing up the top's frame. Then figure out simple folding legs. The prototype sold two weeks ago, and I prefer two tables, so gotta git'er done.

Thinking of a dado blade for the TS. A single blade with flat teeth is fine, as my width depends on the stock, which is never consistent.

I've been getting a lot of action out of Gerald's suggestion to hold my hand plane diagonal to direction of travel. It is nearly time to sharpen the 60 1/2, touch up the others, and burr a few card scrapers - I've got half a dozen with clean square edges; my new practice is to dress all of them to square then burr a couple at a time; the scraper will tolerate a fresh burr a few times before leaving circulation to await the file.

How about you, John Morris? :) Time to share :OldManSmiley:

My deepest sympathies Fred. So sorry to hear. She was a cutie and quite protective of her family and property recalling my visit there. She knew she was loved. Prayers for both you and Marie.

Mrs Grandma Grandpadave took yesterday off trying to use up vacation time so she had plans which I learned included me. She drove but we ran some errands.

One stop included a visit at the local GM hospital to visit the Buick. Long talk with Assistant Service Manager resulted In a simple diagnosis of, "after working on it for the past week, we're clueless.  Everything checks out...all the work done so far prior to us has been done well. I have my top tech on it...IDK, NEVER saw anything like this on this engine family." Waiting on a response from Buick today...still considering engine replacement or at least a "long block" as the fix??? Seems like an expensive long shot guess to me. Out of the thousands of these on lots across the country, leave it to me to pick this one at random.

Lots of catch up projects on the list after losing the past couple of weeks due to COVID cooties.Still pacing myself as I'm short on HP myself. Wonder if changing my engine would help?

Careful out there this week whatever you're doing and especially if you're located in Florida.

Tuesday it is!   Made a Lumber Run this afternoon....

8bft of Spalted Maple

24 bft of Ash

Cost?   other than the gas for the round trip....$25 for the lumber....mainly all 1 x 6s...took a while to both load up the Chevy Equinox, and then unload it into the house...that Ash is heavy...had to cut some of the boards down, so that they would fit into the Chevy...I'm bushed...

stay tuned..:cowboy:

$25 for the lumber

Wow, even driving 60 miles west to the sawmills near Conowingo, I can't get hardwoods less than $2/bd.ft. !

So, I was a'thinking . . .

You know you are a woodworking enthusiast when . . .

A slice of fudge cake looks as good as a freshly-made block of parquet stock.

Ye it is Gramps! And guess what, I came down with a horrible flu today, home from work trying to get well before the big day this Saturday. Timing is everything aint it? I've been pretty stressed about the whole thing, and I think my immune system took a hit. :)

Dang, sorry to hear that John. Take care of yourself. Perhaps it's just a case of the pre-wedding jitters. I've heard about a few grooms bellowing for "Ralph" prior to the ceremony.

Preacher took a good look at my best man and groomsmen just prior to walking out to the alter then said, "wait a minute, let me look at the bottom of your shoes." Apparently he had encountered encyptic as well as not so subtle messages in previous ceremonies when the couple kneeled at the alter.

Hard to get the full lengths in ONE photo....there are 8 boards at 1 x 6 x 4'  standing in front of the taller ones...

Camera turned things a bit reddish..found a single defect in all of these boards...

And this was it...

Letting these sit a few days..while I figure out a Project or two..one for the Ash...one for the Maple.

Stay tuned..:cowboy:
