August 28, 20223 yr Popular Post Since my working with power tools has had to be considerably reduced because of health issues, I have gotten in the shop for some smaller projects. One is a model build of a Chris Craft speed boat and another is a scroll saw cutting and assembly of a tissue box cover. The Chris Craft did consume a bit of time. The whole hull assembly was done in two layers, the first layer using balsa wood strips' and a second layer using mahogany strips. The tissue box was cut using 1/4" birch plywood. This was my first attempt at using the Delta scroll saw for anything more than practice.
August 28, 20223 yr Wow! Nicely done! On a side note, there just isn't any thing quite as beautiful as those Chris Craft boats, your model really is nice!
August 28, 20223 yr Most excellent work Al. Great detail on the tissue box cover. The Chris Craft model is...well...GORGEOUS! Just looking at it, I can hear is burbling in the water waiting for the skier to give thumbs up. Amazing.
August 29, 20223 yr Most excellent job on both. I do not see any restrictions in your work in viewing these.
August 29, 20223 yr The boat is magnificent! And the tissue box seems to indicate some pretty good chops with the scroll saw.
August 29, 20223 yr Author Thanks everyone for the responses. I enjoyed these projects. Had some problems with the aluminum foil and did mess up the windshields with glue on the boat but otherwise I thought it came out OK. That old Delta scroll saw works great. Looking forward to more projects.
August 29, 20223 yr Those both turned out super Al! What Delta saw are you using? I thought you did a nice upgrade a year or so back
August 29, 20223 yr Good projects Al. Nice fit on those Mahogany strips on the boat. Smooth and even.

The scroll saw I had was the Wen 16" Model 3923 I believe. It was supposed to be able to use pinned and pinless blades but changing pinless blades was really a challenge. I now have the Delta model 40-640 20". It's an older scroll saw but pinless blade changing is simple. Much heavier and more stable while cutting than the Wen and the variable speed is a great feature. An oldie but a goodie. the saw is much heavier and more stable while cutting.
August 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Beautiful work indeed! I may actually have a scroll saw but since buying it I got frustrated by the pinless blades it used. Your tissue box project is a great excuse for digging mine out to see if time and experience can make some use of it. Maybe to see if I can update it to use pinned blades. I've got a little name plate with my name cut out using that saw and it is the only project I remember scroll sawing. Since getting a small CNC that can use bits as small as 1/32" tiny details I've done using it. 4D
August 30, 20223 yr Hey everybody done said what I was thinking. Those two scroll saws are about as far apart as they can get to make a good scroller out of someone. Just don't even think of stopping woodworking. I could ever send you some patterns if you can't find some to keep you busy.
August 31, 20223 yr Author Popular Post Thank you @Smallpatch. Definitely agree with your comment about the difference between the two scroll saws. At this point in my life, scroll sawing really is a chance to continue working with wood.
