Larry, and @lew - you don't know what you are missing!  Spanakopita and Pastitsio are two of my favorite Greek dishes. :)

Cal,

I've had Spinich Pie, :Eat: didn't know it by the Greek name. :WonderScratch:

:ChinScratch: What's Pastitsio?

Still $4.80, around here. Costco is $4.60 but, I'd burn a gallon to get there. Of course,  it's next door to HD. There's that.

I'm hitting Lowes soon. Some 5" 8-hole 320 H&L and a new 2.5gal vac. A dedicated vac just for blowing off my table saw after porch-cutting.

Porch sale this morning at a home began in the 1690s, with two newer additions both in the 1700s ... Got a new grate / insert for the little fireplace in my c.1926 row home. Think $5 was too much? :WonderScratch:

Priced to sell . . . I knew he had no change for a $10 or $20 ... Found the sale while on the nature walk; had to swing back with the truck ... dug two dollar bills and $2.70 in change out of the truck ... But he did get a free consultation about rebuilding his old pile of stone and wood.

Down to 3.97 in some places here, 4.19 others

Murphy's (the gas station) here is $4.25, there's one Clark that usually matches that but most other places are closer to $4.50.

In between things I managed to get that joiners mallet finished and got the first coat of danish oil on.

turning stuff is a whole lot easier with really sharp chisels.

I'm new at putting a really sharp edge on my planes and chisels (burrs on scrapers) but notice the results are a little better each time I try. Last time stropping was added - I'll be looking for a thicker piece of leather. Also on the wish list is a big piece of granite countertop - like a remnant of a sink cut-out. For mounting several grits of wet/dry paper.

That mallet is handsome! Looks handy. I've been thinking about one. Effort No. 1 may be shaping a single plank into both handle and head.

I might liken it to mac 'n cheese, with a layer of seasoned lamb or ground beef added.  Found this pic at Allrecipes.com

Re: gas prices, haven't been anywhere lately.  GasBuddy this morning shows it to range $3.66 - $3.94 locally with most stations at $3.69.

That is where my Granite slab came from, but you can also check with counter-top places and showrooms.  They often have samples of stuff that has been discontinued.

I got some cut offs when we had a kitchen remodel. Have 6 grits on one and some 80 grit on another back when I was leveling the bottoms on planes, that is till I saw people like Hock no longer recommend it.

I am not sure what you mean about someone not recommending flattening the sole of a plane.

Thats a pretty important step when refurbishing a plane isn’t it?

At one time it was highly recommended. However now people like Chris Schwarz do not recommend it unless there is an extreme problem . And really if there is a extreme problem may be a parts plane. If you think when the blade is sharp and the body does not rock on a flat surface "what good is flattening the bottom?" . Another option is to use a straight edge and if no serious malformation it is good to go. Note sometimes the sole needs work but to rehab you don't need to jump into all that work for minor problems.

Ah, I see what you are saying.  If there are minor blemishes that don’t mar the working surface and the sole is relatively flat then truing the sole isn’t needed. That makes good sense.

Check the local Borgs. Also, if there is a kitchen center in your area, you might be able to find something.

I’ve wet-sanded my blades to a decent sharpness. 400, 1000, 2000. Then finish it up on the stone. But the stones are small. The paper is 9x14 or so. From a jewelers supply. A big slab would be helpful.

As far as dressing the soles, heck, I don’t even take care of my own feet all too well. The planes are comfortable but not pampered.
