Window sash craft project

Time to bring this phase of the project to a close :)

Took advantage of yesterdays beautiful afternoon to set up shop on the back deck.  Installed good heavy duty D-ring hangers and cut cardboard and black poster board to fit.  I would have normally covered the back with a dust shield, but the black poster board behind the clear glass may get changed out for another color, or maybe even a picture of my buddies bikes.

Then the install.  Everything fit like a glove.

After installing mirrors and glass, the brown tint on the frame is totally acceptable now and I think overall it looks really good.

Took me a bit to find a spot where I could photo it, but I managed.

I think my buddy will really like it :)  I will send him a pic of it for his birthday, but won't see him to hand it off until some time this summer.

I already have the plans for the second frame and nearly so for the third one also.

I will post up a pic of those as I finish them.

Edit - I don't know why that last pic makes the logos seem a bit out of focus.  They are not...

Thanks Gene, it was a fun project overall.

And, I got (or took) some time to visit with my glass folks when I had the mirrors cut.  It's a mom & pop shop here in Byron, good folks, and I've always enjoyed doing business with them.  After a year+ of covid it was good to get over and visit with them.  After the Christmas table projects and now this, I've seen them quite a bit!

Cal I was referring to what you are doing now, etching...You were showing some great things and all of a sudden, nothing.

Hey Jess, I reckon that life and other stuff just got in the way!  I did do a few yeti style mugs at Christmas and a few decals here and there, but you are right, I had not been doing much glass work in quite awhile.  After these next two window sashes it might be quite awhile again - I think 2022 is pretty well booked up right now and I don't see much glass in the mix.

I have wrapped up the second sash.  This one will hang in my garage after I get it repainted (this year I hope).

Same paint scheme, white over gray chalk paint with two coats of clear wax.

Plymouth & Mopar corners are painted mirrors.

Lower left corners of the photo panes have an etched "watermark".

I was disappointed with the photos, they were all cell phone pics and didn't take to kindly to being enlarged.

It will be a simple enough process to swap them out if and when I get some better high quality pics.

These two pics are from a trip to upstate NY I took a few years back.

Top is Marathon, lower pic is at the top of one of the finger lakes in Skaneateles.

These next pics, our son & I at a "cars & coffee" in Mount Pleasant, SC

And just a couple of the awards I've snagged with the Duster.

First Lady's Choice at a local college car show.

Top 10 at a show here in Byron.  IIRC, it was actually a "kid's choice" award.  The Mrs. pointed out to me that as a kid's choice, those kids didn't come to the car show thinking everything had to be a Mustang or a Chevelle - they just wanted to see cool cars.  And of the cool cars, they liked (and voted) the Duster as best!

This last pic shows the Duster when I dragged it home, and the after pic taken on a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.  On that trip I drove the entire Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway end to end.  Several hundred miles from northern Virginia to western NC along the top ridge of the appalachian mountains.  I spent three days on that part of the trip, most of the speed limit is 35 mph.

So, now it is on to sash #3.  It will be similar to this one, but some kind of normal paint on the sash itself.

Based on my experience, she's right Cal. My grandsons always seem to gravitate to the unique cars at shows. Oh, and they are BIG Mopar fans too.:P

As for your project, what can I say...:Praise::Praise::Praise::Praise::Praise:. You out did yourself on this one. Love it and the stories. FWIW, the picture quality captures the era and photo quality available at that time. Perfect. I wouldn't change anything. JMO.

Love it.  Perfect man cave hanger.

I'm not a car guy, so I fall into that "Kid" category..... I just know what I like! Love the car and the project!

Cal great work and idea! I like it.

Thanks neighbors!

With this project I had to learn how to use a Cricut machine in order to cut the black poster board which serves as the photo matting.  The designing was simple enough and pretty much like designing with my vinyl machine.  Moving from design to the actual cut was another beast entirely.  Thank goodness for YouTube!  I still think there's likely some better way than how I accomplished it, but I did get it done.

During that week or so of no keyboard I finished this project up.  This third window sash is headed for Ohio on our next trip up that way.  Simple white paint job on the wood.  Like the second one I etched two mirrors and watermarks into the glass panes.

I showed the first two off to the auction folks a couple weeks ago.  They asked if I would do something similar to put in a future auction, with no fees or commission charged.  I may do a couple to gauge the interest.  These were fun to do.

Love the Firebird rendition too Cal. I can see these being BIG hits with car guys and their car caves. Good side line business if you want to pursue. Another genre would be antique tractors done in similar fashion. 2 cylinder "Johnny Poppers", old Farmalls, Case etc. Hot commodities right now.

Thanks Dave, but no thanks :P

Don't need a job, quite busy enough already.  And too, there is always that chance the big boys (and their lawyers) pay you a visit...

I think I am alright doing something for myself and for the occasional gift.

That said, here is a sign I made a few years back - not green & yellow, but you still might like it.
