Holds 20 tubes of caulk

I never knew that caulk had an expiration date. At least not until I caulked a shower and a day later almost all of it had run down into the tub. What a mess!

What a mess!!   I date my stuff as I take it in so I know when I got it. This method takes vigilance as EVERY time you buy something it has to be the 1st thing that happens when you bring it into shop.

Nor did I until I went into manufacturing over 30 years ago. Almost all sealants, adhesives, thread locks, many types of seal and o-ring lubricants have expiration dates. We had to provide labels on each container used in the factory. Labels had to be created and placed on the inbound material when it reached the disbursement crib.

Unfortunately, expired product was too often found during both external and internal audits from the crib to the shop floor. Depending on type and where found, the infraction could be considered a major event and even so severe as to fail an audit.. Recurrences of similar findings could lead to loss of external parties certifications which could cause loss of sales.

Good practice and yes, can be a hassle but I do the same. Worth the effort and discipline IMO. Probably a result of the above both from being a Certified ISO auditor as well as responsible for areas under audit. Well that, and I can't remember where I hide stuff let alone when I purchased it.

Good question.  I experimented with several designs to accommodate some sort of labeling.  Several were quite creative and would work.  All failed this one part of my requirement, number of tubes.  The available space barely lets this fit and I maxed out what could be stored.  Something had to give, so no labels.

You gotta pull it out and look.

I know, surely some way could be found.  In time, maybe.  Until then this works, also frees up two drawers I need for storage of 3/4 and 1/2 metal pipe fittings.  Previously I had half a drawer of them combined.  In my Father's shop, Mother and I have discovered 5 buckets full of various fittings.  I plan to bleed off two drawers full.  Maybe 1/8 of one bucket????     :BangingHead:

A shop dog is born...

Mrs. Boss came out to the shop this morning, never ceases to amaze me, and wanted to learn how to turn.  Started with a spindle and ended with roughing out a bowl.  The "girls" came along as well.

Sadly, I sold all the lathe parts to my Shopsmith 30 years ago. Because Phyl really enjoys it. Her bro. got her hooked but, he's in IL. Now, with Frank occupying one 'Smith and the other one being a "shorty" and, no room for another big tool, maybe one of these, though. :TwoThumbsUp:She'd have to learn to sharpen her own tools, though.

Small nuts, bolts and screw organizers now have new home.  Even have room to fill one more tray.

I don't know Gene, if she learns to sharpen those, she might learn to sharpen things like knives, scissors, axes.:BugEyeSmiley:
