August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post Looks like it's Friday again , it is Friday right? So in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I'm playing the waiting on U.S.P.S. game of getting the small parts needed to get the Pilot back on the road. Probably won't get the parts until Monday. They're coming from out @Gene Howe's way. Got the Aisin Timing Belt/Water Pump kit yesterday. It came from the right side of us from New York. Doesn't really matter it's supposed to rain through most of the weekend, and we really need it being over 10" below average for the season. Even the rains taking "Two Weeks" to get here. What's up with that? So with all of that said, What's on your weekend agenda? Edited August 6, 20214 yr by Larry Buskirk
August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post Just back from a road trip, spent a couple weeks visiting family in central NY. Also helped my brother put a new tin roof on his garage while there. Looking ahead at the weekend, got to turn around and help our daughter move (again). The younger, mobile generation... A similar scenario played out in June. Coming off a road trip we barely unpacked when I got a call, turned around and drove back to Alabama for a weekend to help a buddy out.
August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post Work in the shop has caused us to neglect other needs. At some point, the weeds and grass that began to flourish during the monsoon rains, will need some attention. A hoe and, Round Up is scheduled for the weeds. We sold all our mowers when we moved. Who needs a mower in the desert, right? Wrong!! Probably 2/3 of our acre+ is covered with new 6" grass. Around here, the locals call it field grass. Most don't bother mowing it. In a few weeks, without more rain, it'll just all turn yellow and lay down. But, we want it cut first. One mowing will suffice for the year. Not worth buying another mower. We'll just hire it done. Shop work will resume Sunday.
August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post Spent a few days in the shop this week reworking our window casing & trim to fit the new windows. Took the advice & tips posted in the TPW finishing forum and we were able to get a good match. Thanks guys. Cabinets did arrive mid-week and filled up the room. Hope to install them next week. Dishwasher is to be delivered today between 7am & whenever we decide to get there. Heading to Columbus this weekend for our granddaughter's birthday & planning to bring her home with us for the week.

August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post I have to admit, I've seen a lot of screwy routes on various tracking numbers, but that one is the worse; by far.

August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post I glued up some beech for a lathe tool handle. Will update on this project as it progresses. Started planning a jamb chuck for 2nd turning oval bowls. 13" diameter with a large groove in the center. I have some material I can re-purpose for this. .40 Edited August 6, 20214 yr by forty_caliber

But last week there was one Amazon truck on the street around the corner (less than 1/4 mile away). A couple hours later a distinctly different Amazon truck was running down our road, which is out in the country and not really a "feeder road." Got ready to come home from camping and let the camper off the struts and found one of the tires was very flat. I'd just topped them off before we left on Tuesday. So I'll be running to the tire shop for repair or replacement.
August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post Well the trip to get the baseball bat blank cut offs went well yesterday and we made the whole 660 mile round trip in 12 hours including a great lunch in the town when we got there. Today we unloaded and sold some to club members and another club from the coast and that alone paid for the trip. Now I have to get in the yard and cut up the palm tree I brought down Tuesday. Maybe going to my son's land to continue cleanup there. I will try to remember to take pictures.
August 6, 20214 yr Popular Post My weekend agenda (for this and many others) is mother's choice for our backyard shed. The builder has made a few modifications from the original rendering, some approved and some not yet shared. Planning to use rough cut 2x4 from a local sawmill for the framing.
August 6, 20214 yr digging dirt/mud. need to clean out a culvert under our road that is clogged with mud. so the flood waters stop washing over the road and eroding the gravel. got the excess ponding water siphoned to the outlet side 2 days ago, to give the mud a chance to dry somewhat. i know where the culvert entry is, the new neighbor doesn't, so i dig to start. sunday is a pistol match, monday turning a bowl for a friend. tuesday take my wife back to the chemo lab to disconnect a 5 day pump. i'm tired.

If that was my shed I'd move into it!
August 7, 20214 yr Author Surprise Surprise, tracking number for the other parts says it will be delivered today! Oh, and guess who want's me to withdraw my counterfeit parts complaint? Since they decided not to respond to my messages for 16 days, I answered by pushing the DELETE button.
August 7, 20214 yr Popular Post I think I might have waited 16 days and then read them the riot act in my Navy Master Chief (a work colleague of mine, not me) trained language.
August 7, 20214 yr I think I see a shop clean up day Saturday. Shipping delays …. Don’t get me started. I’m paying around $30 a pop to ship flag cases USPS 2 day Priority. They are taking a week.
