The beveled cutter seems to be the big attraction.

Of course now that the parts are all here it's 84° with a 71° Dewpoint, and 60% Humidity. And of course we have in the forecast, which will probably only make it more humid. Oh well, I shouldn't complain we're still over 10"s below average for rain.

August 7, 20214 yr Popular Post Went down to Lost Art Press (Chris Schwarz) open house this morning. Boy, it was as busy as I've ever seen it. Got to wish Megan Fitz happy birthday and talk to Chris for a second while he was sharpening some calipers for a customer. It was their first open house in a year and a half or more. I took a walk back to the machine shed. He had some fine vintage equipment, a Saw Stop, and (gasp) Dominos. The bridge between Cincinnati and his shop is closed southbound from one expressway but not the other, so I had to take a scenic drive thru several Northern KY burbs. Got to drive past the CPA company where my wife used to work. Coming back I could hop on NB, but the bridge was backed way up as there was one lane open for I71 and another for I75. The middle lane was all tarped off and was getting the substructure painted. I hope Biden got to see it when he was here a couple of weeks ago and not just taken the outerbelt. SB was backed up several miles. On the way, dropped off a trailer tire for the RV that had gone flat at the campsite. They could not really find a puncture but cleaned out the rim and put in a new valve stem. Got a deep socket and a long breaker bar on the way home (HF) so I can get this one back on and be able to get them off in the future. Oh, and in the shop finished up a set of doors for a daughter's foyer coat closet. They get to paint, but I'll probably help to hang. 1 3/8" rails and stiles, 7/16" flat panels, all poplar
August 8, 20214 yr Popular Post Moving day! Today, we move a lot of tools from their sheltered storage in to the shop. Both 'Smiths were already in there. But, the planer and a Rigid bench top spindle/belt sander, plus the SS 4X36 belt sander and, a dedicated D/C for the planer, are awaiting their new home. The rest is smalls. One of the 'Smiths was outfitted with a Jointech Saw Train with router table. All that stuff needs to be gathered and sorted. I built a " Flat Sander" from Stockroom Supply that will likely go on Craigslist. I imagine we'll find a lot of stuff to join that sander, too. A few sorting and organizing days ahead. Now, if I can just keep my ADD under control. Edited August 8, 20214 yr by Gene Howe

August 8, 20214 yr Popular Post Yet another pecan bowl fresh off the lathe. Trying the shavings in a bag method to dry this one. So far the soap method has the best results in my testing so far. Do nothing - negative results Sealer - some success, some failure Plastic wrap - total failure, mold. 1:6 dishsoap to water with 3 day soak - 100% success no cracking and very little warping but too early to declare the winner. Shavings in a bag - 1st test run.... .40 Edited August 8, 20214 yr by forty_caliber
