April 9, 20215 yr Popular Post Friday again folks, made it to the weekend! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're preparing to go get our "Covid" vaccines today at 12:45. The wife contacted our Dr., and he got us set up at the hospital for the J&J One Shot and Done. Since we both have allergies he figured it best we only go through the process once, and where there are emergency facilities available should they be required. He also wants us observed for a longer time period after getting the vaccine. So, since it's supposed to rain off/on through Monday not sure how much shop time I'll find between that and how I might feel after getting the vaccine. .. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
April 9, 20215 yr Popular Post If anyone is interested, welcome to the Cincinnati Woodworking Club's virtual meeting, Saturday April 10 at 10am. Join at here at 9:50 or so. Please mute yourself and ask questions via the "chat" box. Planning and tracking your projects How do you plan and track your wood projects? I am not talking about the design process. Instead, once you have the design, we need to estimate how many board feet of lumber to buy. And what about tracking all those costs of the materials? A description of the work sequence is easy to record as well. Lastly, what mistakes or lessons learned did you encounter? I will show you a simple way to accomplish all four of these using an Excel file. This serves as a great record for each project. It is particularly beneficial for those large projects.Show and Tell As we continue to have virtual meetings we would like to start back up our Show and Tell.
April 9, 20215 yr Popular Post We have nailed down our kitchen design and will be ordering our cabinets today. She wants all lower cabinets & floating selves for uppers. Family matters to tend to and hoping to start demo by mid week. 1 hour ago, Larry Buskirk said: and how I might feel after getting the vaccine. Larry we received the J&J. Sore arm for a couple of days & hot and cold flashes on the day of the shot. Felt good after that.

April 9, 20215 yr Popular Post I have been informed that Mrs. Boss is going shopping with friends Saturday. Looks like she would learn not to leave the men in the house unsupervised . I'm turning a critical eye towards my workbench. It wiggles when I saw or plane. I could bolt it to the wall but it needs to be somewhat mobile. I'll probably wrap 3 sides in plywood, should stiffen it up quite a bit. Almost there with the shop refit/reorg...at least until the ShopSmith shows up. Ordered a Stanley Low-angle Sweetheart Jack plane. .40

April 9, 20215 yr Popular Post Got 1/2 of the bags of gravel spread around into the shed...then the back yelled.."ENOUGH, ALREADY!" bags seemed to have almost as much watery mud as stones....Could add a bag of Portland and make it a Rat Slab floor.... 2nd shot was yesterday....I feel like a truck had hit me, today. Moving 11 bags of stones did NOT help out, either. Have a "mock-up" under my computer monitor...to raise it 3"....need to get a stick of Ash, or Oak...and build the box...

April 10, 20215 yr Popular Post I've been right busy this past week. I see no reason to let up for the weekend! I finished the dresser build last week and turned it over to the Mrs. because she wanted to paint it. That was fine by me, and it almost turned comical when she tackled the drawer faces. She painted the whites first, two coats with a full day of drying between coats. Then the gray, same routine. Then white touch up, then gray touch up, then white touch up, then gray touch up I finally said enough! After each touch up it was reset the clock for two days drying before mounting the drawer faces and moving it into place I want to give a shout out to @steven newman, @Gunny & @kmealy for each of them over the past couple years have posted tips and techniques that I incorporated into this. After the dresser build was done and SWMBO was busily painting, I completed a new mirror frame. This was a nice large beveled mirror that I bought at auction a couple years ago. I say bought it, they nearly paid me to haul it off it was so cheap. The frame it had was a very cheap mdf model with a vinyl wrap on it. The vinyl had come loose and it did look pretty bad - but the mirror itself was A-OK. New frame made and after moving the furniture around in the MBR I found a place to hang it. And, while waiting for all that touch up to be completed on above dresser , I worked on a new front door. This was a slab door, so mortise for hinges and drill for lock sets. I also trimmed 1/8" off the bottom. Then paint, assemble and hang. From this: To this: There is just enough distortion in the glass that from the street, at night with the inside lights on, you cannot make out any type of clear anything It does lighten up that corner of the room. April 10, 20215 yr Popular Post did a lot of digging of dirt this morning in the back garden area. empty 3 raised beds, move 2 of them, refill, ditch the third and dump that dirt somewhere else. pull up some heavy pavers, set aside, smooth out the area with a rake. i'm tired boss, real tired. almost took a nap at my desk. pistol match tomorrow morning, first match i've been to in over a year. talk about shooting cold. should be disastrous.
April 10, 20215 yr Popular Post Worked on the workbench a good bit today. Laminated some 3/4" lumber core plywood and cut 3x3ish "false legs" Trimmed dimension with surface planer so that the outer face was flush with the under table rail. Glued and bolted those to the actual legs. Cut plywood gussets and glued and screwed those to the under table rail and false legs. Bench is much more stable now. Not perfect but better. Also first run of the new and improved dust collection system. Performed well and kept the mess to a minimum. Made all cuts with a skill-saw and a straight edge since I'm without a tablesaw for time time being. Took longer than it should have. Plan to install quick release workbench casters tomorrow. .40 Edited April 10, 20215 yr by forty_caliber
