Basically my wife doesn't want me near the kitchen, laundry room, or anything house chore related. Heck I can't go get a beer without her grabbing it from me and opening it up and shooing me out. Life is good!! I'm the cook/baker in our house. On those occasions when the wife does help (holidays), she ends up just getting in my way and leaving a mess in the sink.

What I found by research is seal the cedar with shellac and it will not do that. Not sure how many years it has been now but it apparently did work. The vapors in cedar can attack most finishes -- except shellac, or so I've read. Leaving the inside unfinished also keeps moths out of the screws, nails, tools, beer, or whatever you put in there.

January 7, 20215 yr Popular Post Never thought about using those type of locking rings with a hasp. Neat idea!
January 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Love that cedar color under the varnish. I have used high gloss poly on many cedar boxes simply because I had plenty on hand and trying to run out. Going to make a transition to shellac when the poly runs out. But, the beautiful red is very pleasing to the eyes. Great job on the box. Neat ideas.

January 9, 20215 yr Popular Post I have been absent for a while doing contract engineering work. But I have completed several projects which I will share soon. These cedar projects are really nice and it reminded me of some lumber I received from a friend. It is also aromatic red cedar. It was actually a structural beam in an old barn! I cut it into manageable pieces, squared them up on 2 sides, ripped them into several dozen 1 x 6 x 48 lg. pieces, planed them, and made the s4s . They have been laying on one of my over head lumber racks with calls between them all this time. I frankly forgot about them. I loved the serving tray and will be making stackable versions as presents for friends and family. Great thread and thanks for the reminder and idea.
January 9, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Load 'em up.. Might change, according to what is on the grill, this summer... I am guessing this is the "back" of the box.... And this be the "Front"? Have a fancy end, and... Not so fancy end....
January 9, 20215 yr Popular Post I think that if those dividers were removed, we could put in another 4 bottles. LOL
