November 6, 20205 yr Popular Post Well all this talk of birdhouse ornaments and today we were doing demos at the Ag Museum and they start turning birdhouse ornaments. I had never done one so decide to give it a try. I embellished with Wagner tool and Sorby Spiralmaster. Colored that with pens and painted with Metallic Gourd Inks. Now I can see these things being addicting.

November 6, 20205 yr Popular Post Growing weary ? Not hardly. Those ornaments are beautiful ! Keep em coming. Paul

Larry, it happens I did a video on these, hard for me to believe but it's been four years ago. I should tell you, the video is heavily edited in the interest of time. It was entry for the ornament challenge hosted by Carl Jacobson and Alan Stratton, they requested videos be kept short as possible. Also, it's a little different style and I do a few things slightly differently now but you'll get the idea. If you're interested there is a link to a playlist which has unedited videos of the different steps involved. Just do a search for my name on youtube to find my channel, then do a channel for "traditional bird house ornament".

I got the idea for the bird from an Alan Stratton video. He did some that were much larger but I knew right away I wanted to make some little ones for an ornament.

I knew when I saw that dark patch that's where I wanted to put the hole and the perch. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say. The middle one is my wife's favorite, she likes the shape and the bottom detail.
November 7, 20205 yr @Steve Krumanaker, Is that a late 30's Delta 930 11" I spy in the background of your segmented plywood globe video? Edited November 7, 20205 yr by Larry Buskirk
