I've been thinking of getting more into carving, so, this weekend will see the (hopeful) creation of a log mule/carving bench.

More packing and loading for another trip to the storage units. We'll have 3 PUs and two trailers loaded by Sunday. Monday, we caravan to Tucson. Hopefully, this will be the last load of heavy stuff the movers can't or won't, carry.

Well, was going to grind out a few tree stumps today. Went and picked up the grinder (rental, walk behind unit) and had some confusion with the reservation as well as showing me how it worked. So got it home, and the cutter won't engage. Kinda ruined the whole day for me.

Yes, yes and  probably yes!.  I have been wanting to try spoon carving and, like most things, I suppose it'll snowball.  Got the legs cut and now I just have to carve it out.

Yer living my dream Thad! Been wanting to build one too, for bowl carving. I just need the time. So much to do! Tried my hand at greenwood carving, spoons, and I love it. From roughing in with a hatchet to Slojd knives. I miss it, it's just been too danged hot.

I look forward to seeing how your mule turns out.

I still have to build @PostalTom's saw bench. Projects stacking up!

I'm curious to see how yours turns out, and what refinements you come up with.

Have you gotten the hang of yours Tom?

Yes.  It's just the right height for my butt when I want to sit down.  Seriously though, that was about the time when I got my lathe back running, and that has taken up most of my shop time.  I haven't really started anything yet that could suggest the use of the saw bench.  I still want to make the second one before I forget how to use the hand tools I purchased for the first one, and also for when I have to work a longer board.  And, like everyone else, family issues have affected my shop time.

I'll start a new thread on the build.  May be later this evening or tonight.

That bench is on my list too.  Working on storage shelves in a basement alcove.  Using those 3/4" melamine covered sheets to brighten up the dark area.  Then stringing some LED rope lights on each shelf to help.  Then my son's 40th birthday party on Sunday!  Who IS that old guy in the mirror?

You and me both.  I am not a hot weather guy.  Of course, there are extremes on both ends, but between too warm or too cool, I'll take too cool any day.

You can always put on more clothes to keep warm. You can't take enough off to beat the heat.

Isn't snow a four letter word? :ArguingSmileys:

True enough,...

but once the snow gets stacked so high it gets tough to figure out where to put more! :WonderScratch:
