Today took a wee bit longer...even had to stop for Lunch...:JawDrop: The 2 glued panels came out of the clamps...needing a bit of clean up..2146600233_PlanePinethebefore.JPG.cc4d2e9868800222da1f9e168430263e.JPG

The Ash was just as bad.   So...

1730033566_PlanePinemakingshavings.JPG.2cdf7adc1205931ac413ceb919972e7d.JPG

Stanley No.4, Type 10.....

646295926_PlanePineskewtheplane.JPG.ba212d25a19ff79b4923764276c76b43.JPG

A little bit better?:ChinScratch:

Cleaned up the rest of the panels...needed the 2 sides to be flat.   Then the joinery work began...needed two corner joints done..

171826818_JulyProjectcornerjoint.JPG.4b09a13e1ac8d9de5a0378bf3ec3bb37.JPG

Rebate and dado.  Then more dados..:MachineGun:

1829419372_JulyProjectlowerdivider.JPG.6dd9a47b2474884e27ff3cfaab9cbb02.JPG

This is the Pine panel. Upper drawers will be sliding on it...more dados..:Tapping:

647970338_JulyProjectdadowork.JPG.b985b3b7885446f2fbd604777ce87603.JPG

This is the bottom of the case..dados look good?  Except ...wrong face :BangingHead:  Design change...instead of the case sitting flat on the plywood bottom, the Ash sides now sit lower than the bottom.   The sides, also go 2 more dados..for the Ash floorboard..

Pine panel and the Ash floorboard also get a few more dados...for the short dividers between the drawers...pine got 4!:o

1658722335_JulyProject4dadocleanup.JPG.441921b4d80833ff306909184619fd4b.JPG

Got a bit thin in the center..:ChinScratch:

1912471822_JulyProjectkindofthin.JPG.7da969726f07acee8315bb5e95a96679.JPG

The panel is 1/4", BTW...Ash floorboard only got 2 dados.

The plywood back...has a series of rebates around all 4 edges,,,

1598994086_JulyProjectbackpanelsjoint.JPG.57d6bef2b0397bc6b4d8206a566fbf18.JPG

(this is going to be a BEAR to assemble with glue)  I then did a dry fit...

1730310832_JulyProjectdryfitfight.JPG.828aac468801c25360f4ef69255c33e1.JPG

Arrow points to an Ash filler strip to cover the pine edge. I also needed to cut a few parts down to size..

422445979_JulyProjectdrawerdividers.JPG.e1bf95ce56e6a68792655e166219e5ff.JPG

As they needed ripped and crosscut to fit into the dados...so each drawer will have it's own space...:OldManSmiley:

Then, still in dry fit mode...stand the case up..and check the back panel for fit...or lack of..:BangingHead:

1723497391_JulyProjectdadolayoutagain.JPG.2af9f0ce8dd7c7e025770b3d45a08f5e.JPG

Yep, needed two more dados...

956106478_JulyProjectenoughdados.JPG.02da417efcbbacc90973e0350e3faca1.JPG

Think it has enough? :o  Back to the dry fit...

411057277_JulyProjectdryfitback.JPG.c525b0bebe07931310ba2b6464eab1fe.JPG

Come glue-up day, this spot will need a couple cauls...then, made sure the Ash for around the top would fit...

2073691520_JulyProjectAshtrimfitted.JPG.91749fa398773fc2052aab58d94b6241.JPG

Trying to decide on which type of joint to use for it...maybe 1/4" finger joints?  :WonderScratch: Ash, so hinges will work better than the edge of a plywood back.

1797502302_JulyProjectlayoutwork.JPG.80bf6dd9eeae832e32b857e13ab11eab.JPG

You would think I would learn to better mark out layouts......center two were supposed to be on the other face..:ArguingSmileys:

Will see how tommorrow goes....would like to get the case glued up, and fine tuned....THEN start on 6 drawers....:ChinScratch:

Stay tuned..:cowboy:

Was not a great day...all around...tried twice to get my eyes checked....they keep changing focus.   Then, some dummy tried the shop...1630 to 1800 hrs....got 6 rebates made..

208743537_JulyProjectsmallrebates.JPG.0a2eef84b8dd7d6866f0f4ba1a7a03d1.JPG

Will need to ad a few cauls tomorrow...

545181960_JulyProjectproblemareas.JPG.bc5d57050d549996819c4919775a470e.JPG

And pull all this flat...

Then, the real fun began :ArguingSmileys:...

2138399537_JulyProjectglueupofthecase1.JPG.f22db63ac7eacb6791ec97287a677c5f.JPG

We have a glue up...I think....this is a view of the bottom of the case....

142074375_JulyProjectclampconvention.JPG.4daec37841ba16245513bcdf6f871d7c.JPG

Almost ran out of clamps! :o  Will go back through later, and add brass nails to all the joints, when I trim it out.   Letting this sit overnight ( don't even sneeze near it :DevilLaughing:)

Tomorrow, IF this mess doesn't blow up when the clamps come off.....I have the plywood back to attach, and the other top Ash trim...

( What the little boy shot at and missed, but.....:MachineGun:)   Just one of them days....

Another day, another dollar, after I sang and hollered...:DevilLaughing:

Half the clamps came off..

1512072870_JulyProjecthalftheclamps.JPG.d7e8b1402b0322418117ef29bbe62361.JPG

Paused whiled I put the first batch away....for a bit...nothing blew up, good sign.:DevilLaughing:

Had to also clear off a small parts cutter, after the rest of the clamps came off..:ChinScratch:

200231850_JulyProjectsmallpartcutter.JPG.932df9123ff2fc2f7c30cbff059f3a3e.JPG

Fiddled around for a while...got most of the face frame cut and fitted...and glued in place...

Then the back of the storage box was glued on...

1180401266_JulyProjectboxtop.JPG.7821aab562a1dc2d01228757f3cb63d6.JPG

Between this, and the face frame parts...most of the clamps are back on..:WonderScratch:

1648463272_JulyProjectmoclampsmoclamps.JPG.9b7bfea4676a42728e05eaa5ad8887aa.JPG

Ok, those clamps came off....then I fiddled around fitting the plywood back to fit....and some glue to it, and the clamps came back..:MachineGun:

1395507624_JulyProjectbackpanelgluedon.JPG.6d3bbad3d2dc3c6768d5a7643d47f5ec.JPG

Had to use the BIG cauls, this time...:ChinScratch:

1889355749_JulyProjectbackpanelcauls.JPG.0e3bb98f5c52c0487d4be963d58305f1.JPG

As the little ones wouldn't be strong enough...letting this sit a day... had a jack plane to sharpen up...

Stay tuned....:cowboy:

Well...those came off...had to "tap" one of the cauls loose..:ArguingSmileys:

Sanded the back flat ( had a bow in the center....)flipped over, and flattened the face frame flat ( had a lot of high spots and bows :MachineGun:)

Decided a base would be needed...milled a few parts..clamps came back...:SaluteandRun:

1797255322_JulyProjectaddingabase.JPG.a52f4594262c052e7bce422206551a1d.JPG

2034964493_JulyProjectneedsfeet.JPG.b64e0f4636f301bdeb14293a1c0d7873.JPG

Need to add some feet...tomorrow.  :ChinScratch:

Next up..resaw that 1 x 4 x 6' Pine down to something I can use as drawer sides, and backs  crosscut things close to sizes, and get rid of some bad knots...then set up the saw for resaw work....zero clearance overlay...fence set so the blade is centered in the board's thickness....run each through along both edges...

420507556_JulyProjectnotdeepenough.JPG.9e5429184af255c9ad0858e42700fe8e.JPG

Yes, that is as high as that blade will go....8-1/4" blade on a Craftsman 8" saw....normally, I'd run this through on the bandsaw, to remove the narrow strip...but.:ArguingSmileys:....bandsaw needs the motor changed out...:MachineGun:

1817953281_JulyProjectfollowthatkerf.JPG.8f07497872396b746bd1a94ecd73bf07.JPG

Might be "old school"?  All it has to do is follow that saw kerf....about a dozen strokes later....

1397164872_JulyProjectcutcomplete.JPG.ace1cb75f4717e4c09dde72dc4034634.JPG

Saw lands on the wooden deck.   Same problems as the bandsaw..:WonderScratch:

691348004_JulyProjecttoothin.JPG.9749af83446712b3b8100dcbf1bd32b9.JPG

tablesaw makes a wider kerf.:BangingHead:..a couple passes with a smooth plane should fix that...:ChinScratch:

More rips and cross cuts...then stack the parts where they will be safe..:OldManSmiley:

1735006330_JulyProjectdrawerfrontsandsides.JPG.849b2bc4ed4829d02a4fb6afbcfbb99e.JPG

All 6 drawers now have a front, and 2 sides that will fit...still need a back and a bottom milled..:ChinScratch:

A tale of 2 one long sessions, today....with a break in-between them.   1st hour was about removing clamps..:MachineGun:

65885256_JulyProjectdrawerpartsready.JPG.17b63c0b04c72993ef6ef2a0022456a9.JPG

And milling all the parts for 6 drawers.  plywood cut to size for drawer bottoms.  Sides were sized for width and length...even made the backs for the drawers.   Milling also meant rebates, and dados.   Sides needed 2 rebates...one for the backs to sit in..:ChinScratch:

1483732232_JulyProjectback.JPG.3c8b9f6de9e1a85595fe617c0f5f0954.JPG

Also needed to rip the sides and backs to allow for the plywood bottom...front needed dados and a rebate..

1958714499_JulyProjectdrawerfrontjoints.JPG.14ab5bcbbbfc2632a9179cb04b5d877b.JPG

fancy way to build a drawer...plywood fits the rebate along the bottom edge.

Checked the case for square?

About here was  Breaktime!...And at least I'll remember to bring the camera with me, :DevilLaughing: for the next session...

2090677480_JulyProject2sidesbottomback.JPG.7bb53c32cb31a15b67cd6aeac9fe24d3.JPG

"Plan" is to nail and glue the sides to the plywood bottom....then glue and nail the back in place....then the clamps and cauls..:OldManSmiley:

997265940_JulyProject1stdrawerglueup.JPG.5097cc02758c253449d4b441539e3d71.JPG

To glue the Ash front in place..no nails..then set this one aside, and assemble a second drawer..

360719132_JulyProject2nddrawer.JPG.b0c6f187a67f19745c5b7b69d51361c2.JPG

Left just enough room for a 3rd one....had enough clamps to build a 4th drawer..:Cheer:

71845394_JulyProject4thdrawer.JPG.d9cce82fd3c05c83a14106f440ef56ef.JPG

But nowhere to set it aside....maybe next time in the shop...I can build the last 2...:WonderScratch:

601531505_JulyProject2togo.JPG.09beaf2d7b11e1a5cab247eb536d8015.JPG

I did drag out a small pilot hole drill, just in case...:ChinScratch:

1222400293_JulyProjectnailspilotholedrill.JPG.316f2a044279183a62f090b09ab2f520.JPG

yep, those are the nails used...

Dungeon Creeks had been running today...since we had all that rain, lately..:BangingHead:

1385830543_Dungeoncreekwestbranch.JPG.49a98b55c73e169700ce2709e62d034f.JPG

And...

1687561760_Dungeoncreeknorthbranch1.JPG.6ca848a6adc3ea0dbe869f28b3063e08.JPG

Right where I'm working....

Maybe next time, things will be a tad drier down there? :Tapping:

Roh-Kay, Raggy....Clamps came off of the 4 drawers...and tried to clean them up, and get them fitted...

454594819_JulyProject4drawersneedshandles.JPG.a34e8e982251f3af446e7ad1bef38b8d.JPG

Will slide them all the way in, once the handles arrive....Still had 2 drawers to build, so

Build-a-Drawer..:ChinScratch:

2012208960_JulyProjectBuildaDrawer1.JPG.48994d0ce31e1e6560b702b75d6665d6.JPG

Drawer bottom, and a side  I cleaned up the rebates, and made sure all the parts will fit each other...

1887853692_JulyProjectBuildaDrawer2.JPG.d408014027bc17b721ae1a69522f3b68.JPG

bead of glue on the edge of the side (remember, large rebate faces in, small faces out)  I used the drawer's back as a support, will I hammered 3 nails in place.  Repeat for the other side

1617181450_JulyProjectBuildaDrawer3.JPG.ecc825fb479cfd3982a629d3391b7f48.JPG

Back is next.  Glue on 3 edges...

618150646_JulyProjectBuildaDrawer4.JPG.23b1912084b6dbffa902dd62441dbe5c.JPG

2 nails through the bottom, 2 nails in from the sides.   Then the fun..

755750981_JulyProjectdrawerfrontjoints.JPG.7255f74ebffa7b75bf4c969a8a6e2754.JPG

Those 2 grooves (dados) and that rebate along the bottom.they each get the bead of glue,,,,then press/tap/hammer  it into place..

1948273195_JulyProjectBuildaDrawer5.JPG.9a029a68395d85cf00b63b4a01cd3ce2.JPG

Then about 4 clamps...

563825229_JulyProjectBuildaDrawerglued.JPG.17ee0cbcedec8784af5e0af77b539d11.JPG

And let sit overnight..

Decided I need filler strips, and a different base treatment...first the fillers..

634498823_JulyProjectfillersforfeet.JPG.f7d191398a274e80cfb127e6b1e0f043.JPG

Then wrap the molding around three sides.  Mitered at the corners, too....maybe tomorrow, eh

Tongue & Groove joint?

1647895953_JulyProjectTGjoint.JPG.da06d0d93ae6353bf84142c25154f367.JPG

Keep in mind, these are barely 1/4" thick parts...BTW...lid has been cut to size, ripped for width, and the ends square...

855952331_JulyProjectlidwork.JPG.d7a9cb89846d63a3ce8be008d7c0c427.JPG

Once this is done, I can round the corners a bit...sand/plane it flat and smooth...

1274445373_JulyProject3clampsenough.JPG.9d9548d73fdc993233c4e99c266b3141.JPG

When it gets out of the clamps, that is...

Last night, snuck back to the shop about Midnight, or so...was to check on the glue-ups...

About an hour or so later...came back upstairs....

1218253784_JulyProjectmitersawatwork.JPG.05d40a263616a5340ce5f1d1ac156ba6.JPG

Ran the mitersaw for a bit...couple straight cuts (pine backer board, molding has a rebated backside) and a couple 45 degree cuts (black line)

Bolts for the uprights the saw runs in...needed tightened back up, was way too loose.

Molding?  Miters?

2101046542_JulyProjectmiteredcorner.JPG.553dcaaca823be251ec9d5fdb63c26c8.JPG

You could say that....nails and glue to install ( sorry, I don't have Norm's pin nailer..:BangingHead:)

Drawers were taken out of the clamps, cleaned and fitted...:DevilLaughing:

436753133_JulyProjectbasehasmolding.JPG.4be9c875a20146ed99b41bb6d492ecb7.JPG

Upper center, and upper right.  Molding kind of dresses things up..:ChinScratch:

That lid came out of the clamps...needed one of it's LONG clamps to help clean up the base where the molding was going....needed that flat and square....also work on the sides a bit better, and around the top, so the lid will sit flat....Lid?:WonderScratch:

1108308224_JulyProjectliddryfit.JPG.168310e57722793a172c5ae1ab8e65c8.JPG

574940059_JulyProjectmiteredcorner.JPG.a371eef18137d9edf16fd140a55da011.JPG

Someday, I might, just might, get the hang of molded corners...:WonderScratch:

One hour.....see what happens when I can't get to sleep..:JawDrop:

Stay tuned..hardware may arrive this Friday...we'll see:cowboy:

Lid work today,,,after I get it flattened and halfway smooth...curves need laid out, and then the bandsaw can make a few cuts...need the curve tools...
