Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

Yesterday I took a couple hours and finished up a chest for our daughters room, the chest will sit in a window alcove and they'll put "things" in it, just more much needed storage for the girls. I used some really cool old hinges to secure the lid with. I purchased them off Ebay years ago, they are colonial reproduction hinges made in the 40's.

There is no joinery on the chest to speak of, my girl wanted this chest this weekend, so I resorted to simple glued up but joints, with countersunk screws, and wood dowel plugs to hide the screws. Dovetails would have been nice, but that would have added another weekend onto the project.

Flattened the panels of the chest, this is the lid of the chest.

Installing the hinges. (That's me, for you new guys :))

And one happy daughter.

That was a great, and quick, project John!  Looks like it should fit the specs perfectly, and one real happy daughter.

That last picture of the carry tray is almost mesmerizing.  Georgeous!

After the wife painted the porch swings and rockers I had set them on the porch waiting for whatever action I would take on the chains.  The old chains were very rusty and I did not want to reuse them in that condition.  I set about trying to derust by electrolysis after which I wanted to attempt copperplate for them.  The electrolysis was going

S-L-O-W.  I have done it successfully in the past, but maybe these chains being zinc plated had something to do with it?  Shopping around for machine chain 2/0 twist link the prices were quite high but I did find some reasonable enough at a store called Agri Supply, similar to Tractor Supply.  Two stores in Georgia, but they are at 75 & 100 miles away.  Long story short, I checked at Lowes for a price match - no can do.  Checked across the street at Home Depot, they were happy to do a price match.  Chains bought and swings hung.  Happy now:)

So I have now moved back inside.  Working to repaint the living room after which I will hang trim and move into the master bedroom for paint and updates.

That porch looks very cozy!!

Busy weekend with smaller projects. Having stripped all the old paint off the stoop I began painting the sides and fronts if steps. Once cured will hit the top and top of step. Little details make the project.

Used a acid brush to paint the vents for crawlspace. That eats alot of time.

Yesterday we spent 6.5 hours loading the Conex. Glad the buyer had all the necessary equipment. Even so, this was a new experience for him. His trailer was just under 10' wide (102" ) and the Conex was 11' wide. Lots of come-along work to keep it headed straight. He raised the front of the box with his bucket high enough to get two 55 gal. drums under it, spaced wide enough to just barely get the trailer backed up between them. That was tricky. Took us three tries.

With the trailer positioned finally, he raised the back end enough to get the drums out and started pushing it forward. Between the tractor and the winch, we could slide it fully on to the trailer. Thats when the stand jacks an come- alongs came into service. Some scary moments. Especially when a chain broke and one of the jack stands went sideways. But, no one got hurt and we were able to complete the job. There was just the buyer, his wife, Phyl and, I doing this.

He only had to haul it 4 mi. I hope he gets it off the trailer and set without mishap. We offered to help but, methinks he'd had about enough of our help.

Glad its gone!

:ChinScratch:...Let's see now, spent half a day finding and putting another motor on the string mower.

Spent most of one day mowing next door, and the past couple days playing catch up to knee deep grass at home.

Still playing catch up with removing downed branches/trees so I can mow where they were laying.

Getting a bit to warm/humid to continue any more today.:Hot:

I'm POOPED.

Helped a friend cut up a red oak down in yard last week and he brought some wood over Saturday. Worked on the second hollowform from a sweetgum also on his property.

Saturday was 50th and oldest sent a full meal from Harry & David.

Cooking  steaks now. 328E399D-31AF-41AA-861B-24F9515D0277.jpeg.69626065248f62c207bf15ef33c26830.jpeg

John, that is a very nice chest and like someone said, the smile says it all.  I am supposing that this is the Army young lady.

Cal, that is one super nice porch and the stars on the swing are great.  Proportion is everything when you are drawing or painting stars.  These are perfect and the chain work is great.

Gunny, those steps and air vent look great.  You painted the vent with an acid brush.  I hope you had knee pads.

Gerald, it would be super to see pictures.

Gene, you paint a great word picture.  I had to laugh about your customer not wanting anymore of your help.  :D

I was domestic engineer this weekend while we had wind and rain from the tropical storm.  The wind did gust up to about 40 mph and we received about 7 inches of rain.

Well thanks Steven!

The young lady is our oldest girl. Our younger girl is in the Army. 😊

Great work on the chest John. I like the hinges, so hard these days to find nice ones around.

My weekend was mostly spent finishing the buffet (pics in other thread). Long weekend here in Australia so that helped.

Now, apart from cleaning up the garage and resetting to a blank slate, I'm not sure what to do next! I've had some suggestions (thanks Gerald), and I have a few other ideas. I've been gathering scraps from various things for a while now, so I think I'm going to try and figure out some ideas to use those up a bit before they take over the garage ;)

All the various pieces that needed painting were finally done and cured enough to assemble.  Top of stoop and single step have 3 coats of Deck Coat and came out with a nice texture so hopefully no slipping.  No main entrance for us but this was in dire need of rehab.

Before, during and after.  Two now black pipes are for a/c evaporator drain and a electrical feed to the garden for flag light and outlet.
