I am curious.  Do the cables from the roof down to the hood have a function?

Nope, pure decoration.  Woman that owns it is kinda off upstairs.  They had LED lights that are installed all over.  Afterwards had alot of codes and drivability issues. Found several pinched wires and a wire that was tapped for power that went to a data line.  Oops...

Gloomy here as well, but it's all fog...not supposed to rain (today). I planned on gardening work, but it's probably too wet so I'll likely be doing some more scrounging and working on my assembly table stands. I also still have my wife's teak rocking chairs to prime and paint. But the real struggle today is to figure out which tee shirt to wear.

The real struggle today is to figure out which day of the week it is.  The woman who does the morning news program on the clock radio has taken to announcing things like, "It's Friday, April 24." about every break.   Her husband is in the woodworking club and I told him to pass on my thanks.

I'm making some practice bars for my gymnast granddaughter (and 3 of her friends) since she has not been able to go to the gym for six weeks.   Took me all of about 2 hours so now I need to find something else to do.   What I didn't realize is that zinc-plated nuts do not fit on galvanized bolts of the same diameter and thread pitch.   Run to the hardware store.

Wife lost her balance over the raised bed for asparagus and ended up breaking two bones near her elbow.  So yesterday was trips to the xray after tele-med with PCP, today was run to see the orthopedist.   No cast or anything, just a compression bandage and 4 weeks of physical therapy to ensure range of motion as it heals.

Jewelry boxes have two coats of finish on them, need to sand down and put on third and potentially a fourth.

Calling for rain tonight and tomorrow after a day of it yesterday.   Need to find some more inside tasks.

One for Gunny:

Took the van in, to have the FRONT brake pads replaced.  Got a call from the mechanic...saying the brake pads I supplied were the wrong ones....Hmmm:WonderScratch: Pads ARE under warranty and were the same ones I got last time they worked on this van.....drove over there to find out WHAT was going on....turns out, he was trying to change out the REAR brake pads...had them all torn down....could not figure out why the pads were too big( 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan..)  Asked WHY he was doing the rear brakes, when I wanted the FRONT ones done...

:JawDrop::JawDrop::JawDrop::JawDrop:

Yet, I still got a bill for almost $100?   :WonderScratch::PullingHair:

One of THOSE days....:BangingHead:

Spent 2-1/2 hours IN my shop, today....needed to run a rebate along an edge, to house the back of the case.....yep..:ChinScratch:

@steven newman,

And people wonder why I still do my own work. :huh:

Don't know how that shop works but I am pretty smart guy.  At a glance I can tell the difference between front pads and rear pads.  Hard to say what's up with that.  I also don't call or really talk with customers, just do the work is what I have been told

BUT I cannot tell you how many times I have been told to do say front pads, and the boss got confused on what car and really meant rear shoes.  Or alignment, but customer asked about AC not working.  My boss gets so far ahead of himself and insists he can remember everything, so no notes.  Now this also works both ways.  I will give him a detailed note, with year make, model, engine size calf emission yes / no and what is broken.  So lets say this is a 2010 Toyota Corolla with a 4cyl.  Needs front pads, a radiator, belt and passenger side front window switch.  He gets note, I leave.

Hour or so later he tells me we are doing it all.  I strip the parts off the car.  Parts arrive piecemeal for next couple hours, all wrong.  Seems he ordered for a 2010 Honda something he doesn't remember.  Then tells me that's what I wrote down.  NOPE, and I whip out a copy of the note I gave him.  The one he cannot find in that mess of an office, or threw away.  So now we order the correct parts, and he leaves for the day.  Still wrong, he ordered for a KIA this time, because that was last car he saw in my bay.  Can't find out what the deal is, he left for the day at 1400.

Doesn't happen all the time but when it does, OMG.   Happens more often with the others in the shop, they don't give him a note, just expect him to remember.  Nor do they keep notes, or remember.  He is less likely to say something when I mention I gave him a note.  Probably goes nuts trying to find it before giving up and asking me for a copy again.  Cannot really say, I stay out of the office.  He usually leaves and expects the shop foreman to figure it out.  Glad that ain't my job, and he has no competition from me to get it either.  I am happy to be a peon, BTDT and I have zero ambition to do it.  Besides probably is a pay cut for me, I wasn't cheap to recruit from another shop.  :D

Yeah that is always tough.  Stress makes you go crazy.  We all still come to work, fleet work has kept us fairly busy.  Now that people are getting out we are getting a full parking lot to work on again.  Weathered the storm fairly well so far.  Heck I couldn't get a single day off out of this mess, without pay even.

Going to be sunny and warm here, which is great for Autumn weather. About 29 degrees celsius.

Hoping to get in the garage and work on the buffet some more, working on the legs currently. Never done legs with a stretcher between, so it's a new challenge.

Small stretcher between the legs at each end, and a long stretcher between the short stretchers. M&T for the short ones into the legs, thinking of doing the same to the long stretcher into the short ones - does that seem smart, or will it weaken the short stretchers?

Sounds like a fun project. As to the strechers, rule of thumb is that the tenon should be no thicker than 1/3 of the width of the strecher. Questions, though. What's the dimensions of the stretchers and, what's purpose of the one between the two short strechers?

Going stir crazy here. No wood to work with, but I scraped up a little birch firewood that was laying around. Will try to manage some kind of box from it. Not expecting much, but it's something to do.

Gene, the long stretcher goes most of the length of the buffet, and has a couple of angled "battens" (not sure of the correct term for these) that also connect to the baseboard. See the picture for clarity

Aha! It becomes clear, now. Thanks for the picture.

I am thinking you will end up with a rock solid base.  But, I haven't done a lot of furniture so it will be something to learn as others weigh in.

Not to change the topic Steve, but what sort of plans are being made/implemented in Australia for this corona virus?  Since you are now heading into fall, what are y'all expecting?

Well, these are finished to a point.  The one with the cross is finished.  The other one is going to my daughter-in-law to finish and I hope to see it again with beads or something to finish.  It is a project for her and our granddaughter.
