Haven't figured out what it might be but at least I got the wood prepared and the pattern glued on and cut out with the scroll saw... I got to figure out what it will be as I start grinding stuff away!

No beer will some Bloody Mary's do???

Gotta be honest. I LOVE the first 1 or 2 pulls on a Bloody Mary, but that’s it. I’d rather have a Mimosa for my breakfast drink. Baileys in the hot chocolate/cocoa is also good, but all these have too much sugar for long term morning drinking (so I’ve experienced :) ). Sometimes I think we should take Mr Patches works and make a book outta them. Raise some money for the forum.

Cleaned out a van tonight, it had two unopened bottles of bloody mary mix.  Even had the receipt from 3 weeks ago when bought.  Vodka, I have the good stuff from Ukraine, we don't drink that swill they sell here.  :JawDrop:

Smallpatch Daddy, Is it a sunflower? I love sunflowers.

Sherri how are you guys doing? and what is Jeff doing since he has the school locked down?

Sherri its not a sun flower but that is a big rose and I ain't ever tried to make a rose... That is why there is a void there where is goes....

Lots of rose pettles sticking up and I left that area blank so I could experiment.

Artie, Sherri

already did the book making thingy and I am certainly proud of them for she has made 5 books with her mothers stained glass and my stuff...

The 5 books hit number one on the hit parade from the day they came out and are still up there as number one. She started getting the pictures off Wood On Line way back yonder but now I don't think she can get the pictures off Patriot Woodworker...…….bummer.

I put  the wrong picture in then had to take it off and replace it with this.IMG_20200417_095736386.jpg.dfa2052337bef16daa22fdceb2704c06.jpg

Jess, you can download any image you want from The Patriot Woodworker! If Sherri is having issues doing so just have her contact me, and we'll get her all set up!

But for now, any image in the forums, you simply right click on the image, and "Save Image As" and you are on your way.

If you want to download images from the gallery, just click on "Image Tools" at the lower right of the image displayed, and click on download, easy peezy. :)

Our community here is fully open source, anyone can download anything, member or not a member.

@Smallpatch, does the above instructions help you guys at all?

Hey Sherri how are you all??? Whats you guys doing since Jeff has the school locked up?

I guess I will have a pair of wall hangers if they suit me when finished.IMG_20200417_095736386.jpg.bdf6bff530fedb5457506e71fd778bfa.jpg

I started another project a few days ago and laid it back for it was going to be more or less one piece with no scroll saw cutting it up but I could see it would take too long with nothing being in pieces so don't know what I will do with it.

Not a sun flower and I have yet to try a rose with all those pieces sticking up like that..

Did you notice I have a blank there where the rose is. Somehow I got to stand up a bunch of pieces and make it look like I am knowing what I'm doing,,, wrong, not this time. So I think I will experiment with that void where the rose goes......maybe find a living rose, freeze dry it and use it in the space!

You guys talking about your favorite drinks.  I only liked beer but the day we opened the go-cart track I told Bernadette, beer and 15 go-carts would not mix. I think the only beer I drank after that was in Las Vegas or Colo.

I think there is a few beers in the refrigerator in the garage but those are for Jeff. And some of them could be 20 years old..

Artie, Sherri has already beat you to the booksIMG_20200418_095926932.jpg.d3eaab9a575d71eca3fa9c4366332812.jpgIMG_20200418_095822864.jpg.417a2509cb8ddceeefebaea20cbdc07a.jpg

She got all these pictures off of Wood Online over the years...I don't think she can do that with Patriot Woodworker??? oh well!

And this is what I did this morning plus the end of my finger.IMG_20200418_121656862.jpg.19237eca440af9e944d33dab77ee9d6c.jpg

Getting the feel of how much I should grind off after I study it for a while... I'm only working on one of them right now..

This has turned out to be the least amount of work I have done with carving. Just lots of different heights but not too much fancy stuff that takes much time.. Just the rose and that might eat my lunch before I am finished.

Plus I keep loosing the whole post and pictures and have to start all over again... not fun...

So how's the finger????

  • Author

So this is what I done after lunch today. The rose sure could be better but the first one they say is a start...IMG_20200418_170841286.jpg.303fcd8d6bfab2f6d85028cc51035ea6.jpg

Fred its the small finger. Its the one that rest on what I am grinding with the dremel with the flex shaft . It serves as a stop or the only thing I have as a grinding bit steadier.. and when the bits with long barbs wants to grab ,this little finger is the closest thing around.... And I just got it well from about 3 weeks ago... Gloves are out of the question for when those long barbs grabs the glove it will bend the bit big time and render it not fixable or at least not to run smooth anymore... So I consider it just part of playing wood working. I just loose the skin on the end of the finger that's all..

That rose from this angle looks great Jess.  What about wearing some type of thimble on that finger?

Maybe a finger cot? Not much protection, though.

  • Author

Cal that's the best idea I have so far. They sell a kevlar and steel mesh gloves and a one finger model for carvers but these bits have maybe 1/16" barbs and seems like it don't like anything around it for it chews it up and spits it out real quick.

I made each rose petal then used hot glue like how I glued the feathers down on the owl..

Whats it look like Gene?

@Smallpatch, did I address your concerns about your daughter being able to download your images from Patriot Woodworker? :)

  • Author

Yes and I was fixin to let you know the last book for sure came from pictures I had posted on Patriot Woodworker. And I was thinking you had told someone a while back once you post a picture on here you can't take it back off.. and this sounded like one could not down load from here also... So I can down load them and use them somewhere else but I can not remove one, is that right?
