Wow, lots of progress.  You did deserve a blonde!

Getting ready to start either the doors, or..the drawers...or another Guinness...clamps came off, lots of cracks, moans and groans to be heard,,,and that was just from me...set this thing up out of the way...

I reinforced the joints for the shelves, pair of screws at each end...then hauled the plywood to the shop...

Measured and trimmed to size.   Yes, I wore those goggles...saw was kicking a lot of chips up into my face.   Set this aside, set the case back onto the bench "Good side" down..

Nothing has been easy...had to clean out the nozzle on the glue bottle, first.    Then established ONE square corner....glue and screws...then...

Longest pipe clamp I have, to pull the case into square....then a lot more screws.  Then add two pads for the feet...screwed to the case...then screwed to the base...

had to make sure the Tool Cabinet door will swing past the Plane Til...next?     Decided to just "fill her up"....So, how about a PIP, for now?

#7s on the bottom...then work my way up...like that centerpiece on top?

Those three opening on the bottom are for drawers, I still have to make...along with the door(s) for the front....

First off, I need the tablesaw, for the next part of this project...first, I need to actually FIND it

Rumour has it, that it's here, somewhere..

Well...lookee what I found... And the first task, other than plug it in...

Is to rip a bunch of parts to width...using up almost all the cut-offs in the pile....needed 12 parts..

Then adjust for fit...

Because they will all have to slide into those openings...sides...

6 of them, needed trimmed for length, and to get rid of the nasty stuff...like knots, labels ,  screw holes.  One one laying down on the job?   is to be a drawer front..

Sides all trimmed for length, fronts trimmed as well.   The 3 sitting off to the side?   will be the backs of the drawers.

That will do, for today....working way too hard for a Saturday.

Hmmm, gotta learn to stay OUT of the shop, once I close up for the day.....went down there to get a photo of the mallets of the shop..

Yeah...the Wall E World one I have been using, the lightweight one I inherited and the famous Lew's Mallet  that I turned...back when I had a lathe...

 

next thing I know, I'm resetting the rip fence on the saw...

About 1/2" between the fence and the blade...about as close as I can safely saw.   Blade all the way up...

then these start piling up....seems I did some resaw work...as the backs for the drawers are no longer 3/4" thick, nor are the sides for the drawers..

But, I did leave the fronts of the drawers alone.   Was also down there on Laundry Detail.....had to unload the dryer, and haul the full basket upstairs, whew.

 

right shoe feels like it filled up with pine sawdust.....at least it smells better...

 

Steve, your plane til doesn't seem to have any room for future acquisitions..  is this a design flaw, wishful thinking, planned obsolescence so you can build another down the road, or what?

well...the drawers were to house the block planes....as I NOW have a stack of dividers to keep them separated IN the drawers...

have to make sure there isn't any knot holes.   Last plane I bought?    Went into a box....the Stanley #71-1/2.   And there was enough room for the Millers Falls No. 15.....sitting on the shelf, behind the Millers Falls No. 14....IF all the block planes go into the drawers....I could arrange a space or two for more planes..if need be.  

 

Left the tablesaw set up, for now....may have use for it, again....

 

Dovetails?    Done Pins first....  Stay tuned...

Spent today fitting parts to where they needed to go...

Drawer fronts need trimmed square, and planed to fit..

See-through shavings may look nice...but it takes forever to plane down to where i need to be,,

Sides needed to be fitted, and match each other..

looking better.   then needed to mill some grooves, and some dados...

Sides get a dado to house the back...Some needed to be cleaned up..

Tablesaw made the grooves, and the Dados....

Decided to try my hand at dovetailed drawers..

Pins laid out first, of course....

We're getting better at this sort of thing?   Made sure the plywood panel would FIT the drawer...then glue, and a forest of clamps...

And not a screw was used...this time around...

Will let this mess sit a day...one drawer done..

And two more to go...1700hrs was quitting time, today....might as well work tomorrow....not much else to do..

Maybe clean out a few more grooves?

Road trip this morning, Plexiglass for the doors has been bought.   5 handles have been Bought....Lunch via Burger King Drive-thru.....

Drawer No. 1 is out of the clamps...and nothing flew apart..

Sides cleaned up...

Front has been planed smooth.  Circles are where a square hole USED to be, from the bottom panel grooves...Fixed that.

handle has been altered, and installed....didn't care for the pointy ends, ground them off.  

Drawer fits Seems everytime I try for a piston fit drawer..they get stuck...drawer has a bit of room to grow, now...

Drawer No. 2....dovetails were made. all parts dry fitted together...then the glue and clamps arrive..

Even used a couple cauls..

Used the vise to help out....so even more clamps could join in...which means...

No room to work on Drawer No. 3 Soooo, now I have to wait on glue to dry, again. 

 

2 hours IN the shop, on a Monday and nothing went wrong

 

better not press my luck..will just wait until tomorrow...stay tuned

Getting ready for No. 2...

Bloodthinner Clinic this morning...1.9 reading..meh.  Got drawer #2 out of the clamps.   Shop time started @ 1200hrs....ended @ 1430hrs.  Got a wee bit done?

Drawer front was sanded and planed smooth...as was..

The sides...IF I plane the pins towards the sides of the drawer...I won't get any "blow-outs"  

Then, something about a handle?

Yeah, not a fan, either.   Red lines show where metal needs to leave....so..

Grinder, and a cup of water..problem solved.   Next, needed to center the handle on the drawer front..

Then use the North Bros #41 to make two pilot holes for the screws..and install the screws...then set the drawer aside, with Drawer #1

have to keep an eye on these drawers...

Block planes are already trying to move in...seems a plane had kicked a few out of the shelf..

Well, bench is cleared...might as well do the last drawer?

Takes a bit of saw work..

Some chisel work..

Once these "Pins" are all chopped out, use the pins to lay out the tails...bandsaw this time, instead of a handsaw..

Make lots of cuts, to help the waste leave..fancy chisel to get into tight corners,,,and

Repeat for the other end.   Clean out a few grooves, again..

Making curlies.   Get the plywood bottom cut to final size...then the clamps and glue, and cauls..again..

There goes the neighborhood.   Will let this sit awhile....while I figure out what parts I need for the 2 doors...and what sizes to cut them to...

 I am reading a bunch of the original FWW issues, starting with #1.   In the last one, there was an article by Ian Kirby on cutting dovetails.   I couldn't finish it.  So pedantic, feet had to be here, butt had to be there,  shoulders at 66 degrees from the bench top*, etc.  

 

 

* well, maybe an exaggeration.  

Usually, I'm just sitting down on the shop stool....

Hmmm, I gotta learn..that when I close the shop for the day...to stay the flock out....

 

Was just sitting around (so far, so good) thinking ( uh, oh..) then went back to the shop....plan was just to cut some molding stock...

By ripping a 1 x scrap...needed the scrap, first...which meant I needed to rip stiles to width

And while I was at it, might as well rip the rails, too..

And groove all 8 to match the plexiglass thickness...The molding?  Nothing fancy...

Nothing real fancy.  They just wrap around the drawers...and provide a place for the doors to rest on, when closed up...

Got a lot of figuring to do....about how to turn 8 pieces of pine, into a pair of doors...like how much tenons to allow for..

And how the two doors will meet up....maybe a 1/2 lap to connect the doors?   Looks like I'll be chopping a mortises, again.  First, need to get that last drawer done, and out of the way.

Let's see...killing time until the store opened, so I could make the payment on the van...last drawer came out of the clamps.   got cleaned up, and fitted into the opening...and a handle added, so I could pull it back out..

Then puttered around a bit....set up the Mortise Jig... 

It has a new jaw, as the old one was worn out....had to reset the space between the jaws...was still set for legs.  Tenons were made on the tablesaw...

Then used the tenons to lay out the mortises...and then slide the part back a bit...and reclamp it up...and chop a hole..

Got all 4 corners done....needed to go buy a few items....like a plexiglass panel...the hinges, the latch, and something to cut the plexi to size with....should have saved my money on that cutter..tablesaw was much better....

Followed the instructions to the letter...this is how it turned out....had enough leftover, I could set up the tablesaw's rip fence, and make a good panel....then a glue up was done..

With cauls to keep the joints flat.   Yes, there is a plexiglass panel in there.  Will let this sit overnight...will clean it up and hang it up tomorrow....so I can lay out for the right hand door.   While I take that cutter back, I'll have Lowes cut the panel to rough size.  Then trim as needed.  

 

May add a small can of stain to the Witch's Brew....getting a bit low...

I have that same cutter, waste of space.  Like you I use the table saw and add a sacrificial piece of 1/4 plywood just over the cut to get a smooth edge when done.

I've never tried to use one of those specialized cutters.  I have always used either the table saw or scroll saw.

Leaving the paper on plexi when using the TS reduces it's tendency for melting. Lexan, OTOH, is a bit easier to cut without melting. Scoring isn't an option, either. It won't break. And, it doesn't have the electrostatic properties of plexi.
