April 2, 20206 yr Popular Post With the self quarantine happening, it makes for a lot of idle time. I had posted about making a jewelry box before but don't recall where it was posted.Hoping I can post photos here. The wood is cherry, birdseye maple and maple.
April 2, 20206 yr Popular Post Al, this is the first box that you have made that is different. This is awesome. Thanks for showing this.

Actually I made a couple. One was for my wife that was made from some spalted maple from a tree that was cut on my property. Another was from a birch tree that a storm took down on my son's property after he had passed away. Gave that to my daughter-in-law. Both were posted here on the forums. Don't know if I can find them to post again for you.
April 4, 20206 yr Popular Post I have never built drawers like that so it would be a challenge for me. That is going to have to wait for sometime. I have to paint this house. The house next door was just renovated, so now I am the bad looking house on the block. Got to change it so the tax collector can go up on my property taxes. Then if I have funds, I'll try making some drawers. That looks interesting. Did you do some form of interlocking? Did you use finger joints or dovetails? Just curious. Al, the reason I put a sad face was about the loss of your son. Much too sad. Edited April 4, 20206 yr by FlGatorwood
April 5, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Steve, this is the box I made using the wood from the birch tree on my son's property. A little different. I will try to find the photos of the spalted maple box.
April 7, 20206 yr Author Popular Post OK ! My first images were not great. Had the wrong camera settings, so I thought I'd take a couple more that show the wood grain a bit more clearly. Top was one piece and the drawers were cut from one piece.
April 8, 20206 yr Popular Post Al, I sit in awe. That birch is awesome quality of craftsmanship. And, the one you posted more pictures of is awesome wood and workmanship. You are the master. Thank you for showing us that it can be done, at home, vice a factory.

Mostly lap joints and some mortise and tenon. Nothing difficult to do. I still have the one that was made using the spalted maple from a tree taken down on my property. Not much, but I'll take photos if you folks would like to see it.
April 8, 20206 yr Popular Post Al, it's craftsmen like you that inspire the rest of us to try new things! Simply beautiful work! Thank you. John
