CharlieL Posted October 20, 2019 Report Posted October 20, 2019 It's probably that time when someone needs to invest in a dovetail jig and a router. FlGatorwood 1 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted October 21, 2019 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 21, 2019 had one...just wasn't what I wanted to do.. Got rid of this thing soon after... Popular Post steven newman Posted October 21, 2019 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 21, 2019 Roh-kay, Raggy...back to the DVD Cabinet build...wanted until the basement had cooled down a bit...didn't help a whole lot... Jig? We don't need no stinking jig...( haven't driven these all the way in, "black gaps" is from a black sharpie) made a mess on the floor...and my toes are cramping up.. Some saw dust too...got the blank for the top flat, jointed, grain matched to a filler strip... Going to cut two dados across the wider section...then.. Do a glue up...filler is the front of the top. That "bad spot"? We have ways.. Have to decide on a radius...planes were in use, tonight ( why I am soaked) That funny looking plane in front? A Stanley No. 39 3/8" Dado plane...was using it to clean and mill rebates.. Along with a mitre saw, or two....need to mill the matching dado....Tuesday. Stay tuned... Popular Post steven newman Posted October 23, 2019 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 23, 2019 About 2 hours IN the shop...plus about an hour Road trip..seems I ran out of Ash....had to go out and buy a couple sticks...4/4 x 6 x 8'.....cost me $10 for 8bf .. meantime....back at the ranch.... The Ward's #78 had work to do...this is the bottom of the case...rebate to house the plywood back... Both of the side pieces got the same thing...checking the depth.. And the blank for the top as well. Then time to set up a dado plane... Spurs need to get rotated down...cutter needed selected A #14 seemed about right...lines are for a dado...assemble the plane... dado at each end. Board is clamped into the vise, plane ran as needed...backsaw and knife to help things along... Dados and rebates done...Brought a case down to the shop...to lay out the spaces for a couple shelves... Shelf above this, and then lay a second one out...Found enough Poplar for some 1/2" thick shelves.. That sheet of plywood between them? Should be ok for the back? Since the dados in the top are done, means I can glue these 2 pieces together.. Sooo... I sit around, waiting on glue to dry, again... Stay tuned.... LarryS, DuckSoup, Cal and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted October 23, 2019 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 23, 2019 Spurs are not adjustable. Cutter is set to almost the same depth. Since the spurs are cutting ahead of the cutter, seems to work. Something like this.... FlGatorwood, Cal, Gunny and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted October 23, 2019 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 23, 2019 Hmmm..start time, today...1300hrs.....quitting time was 1530 hrs....tired, soaked, T-shirt ran away...... Clamps came off the case's top... Both faces planed flat and smooth...then ran the router around a bit... "Round and round", along with 4 counter-sunk pilot holes. Set this aside....have work to do... laid out for 2 shelves...used the DVD case + 1/8"....Then knife the lines... Mitre box to cut to depth both knife lines...( saw works way better, when you let it do the work..)then.. Hammer and chisel to "pop" the waste out, then.. used a plane to flatten the floor of the dado.....why not use the Stanley 45? Even the long rods are too short...I did take the fence off later, and cleaned the last 2 dados out... Which means shelves are next. had the one that was almost the right size...just a 1 or 2inches too long...the other needed cut out of a wide plank...that was also tapered in thickness...cut what I needed out of the thicker section...decided to level the playing field a bit... Was tapered in all sorts of directions....made a mess on the floor... yeah....took a while. Then joint the edges, until both shelves matched each other... Need to dry fit all the parts, so far...as one other part needed cut... And see IF I have enough clamps...Hey! The case fits! A look from the side? Everything clamped up nice and tight...I can mark and cut some plywood for the back.. Needs fine tuned...bandsaw is not known for super straight cuts... So....IF I have the clamps, cauls, glue and 5 hands....maybe tomorrow I can glue this mess up....square the case when I install the back. Then build a base for this thing..and do a door build...and find some hardware.... Right now, I am plumb tuckered out..whew. Stay tuned.. Artie, LarryS, Gunny and 2 others 5 Quote
