The shop is located in a partially renovated 1800’s barn. Renovations consisted mainly of the addition of an 1890’s base burner stove, some insulation, and patching enough holes to keep the sparrows out.

John uses authentic tools whenever practical. He has a great collection of 1800s to early 1900s spoke shaves, hand drills, block planes, lathe tools, etc. When it isn’t appropriate to use an authentic tool (because of it’s fragility, value or rarity) he tries to use tools made by craftspeople like himself who make hand-made wood working tools in the traditional style. The only power tools in the shop are his lathe and the table saw, which is only used for breaking down large pieces of material so they can be managed.

  • First day back at work after a week off.  I need another week people!!!

  • It's been so long, I forgot how to read a schedule...or a calendar. If it weren't for the computer, I wouldn't know the day or date.  Thank goodness my weekly pill containers are labeled. But the

Have a long time friend coming into town this week.  Will get to spend a couple days with him.  Just not sure which days so leaving it open for him.

I'll see what I can get done today between the all day forecast off/on :BlackCloud:

The way the weather has been here its hard to stay in the house, I'll be in the shop.

John I see a bandsaw.

Finally turned offering plate #16 only have to sand the inside. Now today to turn off he bottoms of the last 3, brand them and apply stain. Then it is on to Christmas show stock and build a display for that. Ok and maybe some fun turning.

I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon.  They need to perform an echocardiogram and a followup appointment.  Nothing serious, I have an extremely minor heart valve problem, no meds or treatment required, and they do an echo once a year just to keep tabs on it.  Friday I go to donate blood, and in between I am working on repairing and refinishing the top of a night stand I made in shop class too many years ago.  It is made from aromatic cedar, and the top split along a grain line.  Other than that, nothing much besides normal chores that my wife can't do due to her disability.  I refuse to put on an apron though, I need to maintain some dignity.

Spent all day Saturday working on the theater set in the new building with the new tools.   Cut parts for 10 doors and 8 dividers for "creepy doors" whatever that will become.   Got most of it together.   Continued to organize the mess of tools that was salvaged, and some other small pieces.   Today I cut the mantle piece and made it 10" shorter to fit the new fireplace prop.  Tomorrow, I'll go back in and clean and deodorize an upholstered chair or two and make a curb alert find of a base cabinet into a miter saw stand.

Keith, is that the saw you were asking about (to purchase) some time back? If yes, how's it working out?

The week’s activities are yet to be determined.  I have a show in a couple of weeks and will need a few more trivets so they may get made.

Been helping my wife with her assignment (model building) so haven't been able to get down to my bench. Getting itchy fingers though, so it's gotta be soon!

Still have a bit of cash set back for next weekend....slight chance of a shower Saturday....sunday looks better....IF I can learn this new phone, I may not need to carry the camera along, too...and a Bumbershoot....

So she's been doing an interior design course. This assignment's model is a retail space in a mall for a sneaker outlet. She delivers it to the class this morning, so hopefully gets a god review from the tutors. I've attached a photo to give you an idea of what we've been up to
