Some of my furniture builds

You have more patience than I do for all those compound dovetails. Great work  and Thanks for sharing

That is some chest of drawers.  AWESOME!!!!!

Boy oh boy oh boy. Absolutely beautiful Derek. What's not to love! Being a chair guy that I am, I especially love your Wegner chair. You stated you have the real one as well beside your chair, so that is a real Wegner? Outstanding!

Although, I like your choice of seating material better. :)

Thank you Derek for posting these images of your amazing work, I had a great time oooing and awing over all of them, this topic is great inspiration for all of us.

A few more ... unless you have had enough?

I like secret drawers. I went through a stage of building them into everything! :)

This is a sofa table. The top is West Australian She-oak. It is stunning, has a 3-D grain, like spun gold. The top has been finished in Livos Universal Wood Oil. This is a green oil made largely from cold pressed flax seeds. It adds a slight amber sheen to the wood.

The base is USA Hard Maple ...

I think that the legs ooze sex appeal :)

The secret drawer? Reach under the side, pull out the rail ...

Underneath the drawer is a Quaker lock which, when released, enables the drawer to slide out further, revealing a hidden drawer behind the secret drawer.

The second piece is a kist.

A number of people asked me about the term “kist”, where it comes from. "Kist" is quite international. It is the term I grew up with as a child in South Africa before migrating to Australia. Likely it reflects the influence of both the Dutch and German. One source states it is of Norse extraction (“kista”). It is still used in the UK – in Scotland it refers to a coffin - and I'm sure has derivations in other countries. It is "Kiste" in Germany, “kisten” in Holland. I could just say "blanket chest", but that sounds so boring :)

It is made from Fiddleback Marri with Jarrah accents (both from Western Australia). The Marri is typically filled with resin knots. I cut narrower boards, and then the hard part was to assemble these with the curl remained aligned. The front is made from three boards.

Where is the secret drawer? Down here ...

Fun? :)

Perhaps I should post some tools sometime.

As for me, you could never post enough of your fabulously crafted projects. Keep 'em coming.

In our Gallery too Derek, upload away! Pics tend to disappear down the list in the forums, uploaded to our gallery, they stay at the top forever. I'd hate to lose this topic in the tens of thousands of topics we have, a month from now. In the Gallery they are easily accessible and used for inspiration by many.
