Now we can all go out and tighten all our circuits . :) Great story and I would never have guess it could cause that much damage.

Yes sir, fried the range, and almost got our washer and dryer, like the electrician said, you're getting power, but it's the wrong kind of power. Dimming lights, a dead give away if I only knew better.

It’s hard not to feel like a superhero for us electricians, sometimes. LOLOLOLOL Loose connections, bad grounds, worst two things in electrical circuits. Actually John, it sounds like it wasn’t too loose, when it’s really loose the terminal in their meter burns up so bad it can’t be saved, and the meter must be replaced. All your electrical devices should work much better now.

A few years ago, a good friend of mine lost the neutral at the meter base.  That was an ugly, expensive experience.

Good to hear, John. Money well spent.

A couple of months ago, as I was about 2 hours into my trip to NOLA, my wife called and said there were electrical problems.  Some things were working and some not.  I think I told her to check some things but putting a volt-meter on the circuits was more than she was able to handle with phone directions.  I had her unplug major appliances. It turned out there was an area-wide low voltage an the power company suggested turning off the mains.   It was about 5 hours until they got it fixed and luckily, nothing got fried.

Had the same problem here some years ago.  Notices the lights were dim.  Shut down all the major appliances and went and checked the neighbors.  Theirs read the same.  Electric company sent a guy out to my house because I was the only one who called.  He checked the neighbors too and said yes there is a problem.  Turned out to be a problem at a sub station.

Yup, that sends 220 volts to everything.

Guess I should call a qualified electrician to tighten everything.  I'm not smart enough to check on stuff like this.  Might create a light display.:D
