March 22, 20197 yr Popular Post Weather is warming up and looks like this will be the first time this year on John Deere. However I’m looking forward to getting outside and it not be raining. Forecast is for a nice Saturday and possible showers on Sunday evening. Yesterday we pick up these Cherry logs from a tree close to us that was being taken down. Got them dropped off at the sawmill. Last last night my neighbor came over and ask me if I could turn a spindle for them. Not my strong part of woodworking, but it seemed to be close enough. I got my new CNC setup and together this week. They had to order my water cooled spindle so just waiting on it to get shipped in. Looking forward to getting this running. The rest of the weekend will be trying to finish up straightening the shop after all the rearranging. What’s on your agenda this weekend? We love to see and hear about your weekend projects. Whatever you do, have fun and be safe!
March 22, 20197 yr Nice logs, John. Your spindle looks like a good match. Turning might not be your strong suit but, you ain't too shabby. I'm making strange looking picture frames for the matching pair of laser burned family tree plaques. At Jesse's urging, I'll try to get some pictures of the process. Next up are some wine gift boxes and a start on a whiskey presentation box. All will get lasered so, they'll take longer than my usual snail's pace.
March 22, 20197 yr Popular Post Somewhere in the midst of all these clamps ( and cuss words ).... Is a finger jointed Ash box.....might try to get it done, by Monday?
March 23, 20197 yr Popular Post Something similar to Steve with boxes but much more basic construction. My teenage apprentice wanted to give makes small boxes a try. As I happen to be in need of a few I let him get started. Learned about using twisted boards. As in not a good idea. The box had nice joins and was square. BUT, did not sit flat. Burn pile. Start over, and welcome to the club. Got two not twisted ones in clamps now.
March 23, 20197 yr Popular Post Got home about an hour ago from the Pinewood Derby event. "We" did pretty well...grandson won first in his division winning 3/5 heats with two second place finishes; missed best of show by 1 point and lost overall fastest by .00019 seconds....We improved from 2nd in his division last year and missing overall fastest of .00140. He's got big plans for next year. Good meal prior to the event. Kids start spring break and will be leaving with their dad for 5 days heading to Phoenix Sunday morning. Saturday will be busy getting everything in order for that. Sunday. church...any other free time TBD.
March 23, 20197 yr @John Moody That is one nice set of logs, will get some nice boards out of them. and the spindle looks good too. @Gene Howe they'll take longer than my usual snail's pace. I guess we will get a comfortable chair and a cup of coffee and wait. maybe even a nap. Herb
March 23, 20197 yr Well took today off from the shop, tomorrow will work on another batch of 8 block planes I am working on. Herb
March 23, 20197 yr Popular Post Got more pens to make lol got a couple of people that want one. I wish those cherry logs were in myyyy yard, and also wish I had a way to mill them up. Above all, I wish I had a shop. Oh well, can’t win them all I guess.

At first glance I thought that was the spare tire for the wheel barrow.LOL Wow that is quite the finish you are putting on that plate. Can't wait to see the final picture. Herb

March 23, 20197 yr Popular Post I spent the week in Birmingham, Alabama visiting with my brother. I had my sister with me so I couldn’t stop in Moodyville but I did manage to have lunch on Tuesday with the Worsham’s.
March 23, 20197 yr Visiting with the family is always a good thing, I wish I could go visit with mine. 😊

I know assuming makes an a SS Out of you and me, but I am assuming that the hole in the middle is actually the waste block attaching to a screw chuck and the plate will be cut from that ?

The hole is too small for the offerings to drop through.

In this case royal blue. Then sand a lot of that off, even more if curly. Then add color in some places and another color inother areas. After all colors on use a fine mist of alcholpl to blend colors .
