February 11, 20197 yr Popular Post I can report that some progress has been made on my flooring project. The front half of the living room has a new, and level, Advantech subfloor. It did take a bit longer than I allotted for this, but that is ok - I will have a better handle on it moving forward. This job required carpet & pad removal; particle board underlayment (some of which simply crumbled up and disintegrated and 7/16 OSB subfloor removal. SYP 2x6's were sistered to bring the joists up to match what I determined was the high spot on the opposite corner of the house in a separate room. And finally, new 3/4 t&g Advantech laid. Finished up just in time to clean up and get the heat turned back on. Those are free Harbor Freight tarps being used for dust control, go H-F! Looking ahead for this week, it is supposed to be a bit cooler and rain expected for a couple days. I will make one or two dump runs. Start doing our taxes, get that other "minor" job done on the son's car, and maybe even - weather permitting - play around with the Duster a bit. And in-between, do some additional planning for the jobs following the floor project. Kitchen layout, cabinetry, electrical outlets, lighting and such. Just a few things to do...
February 11, 20197 yr Popular Post Still to cold to go outside and play. Going to hit the wood shop play ground. Can always make more pens or put things away.
February 11, 20197 yr Popular Post We finished the Slab Executive Desk. Should be picked up today. Today we are working on tenons and fitting the skirts for the Red Elm Kitchen Island. No time to slow down now.
February 11, 20197 yr Popular Post Weekend: Saturday night Valentine's dinner at the church was a lot of fun and GREAT food. Yesterday no snow when we went to church; 1:25 hour later 1"+ on the ground and snowing heavily; wife, grand-daughters and I went to lunch at our favorite Peruvian restaurant, couple of quick errands, then home in time for me to perform my "ice capade's routine." Been a while...small audience...just the dog; seemed to be a "hit" with her. Still feeling the effects today...Aleve helps somewhat. Week ahead: Step-father to another eye appointment this week. Weather again will stymie any outside or shop work, rain, snow, rain, freezing rain, snow, wind and single digit wind chills all in the forecast between today & Friday. Thinking about starting a Go-fund-me campaign to seek legal action against "The Groundhog." Edited February 11, 20197 yr by Grandpadave52 typo

February 12, 20197 yr Popular Post Really nice work, Cal. Sounds like you are going to be busy for a while. Gorgeous desk, John. That table is going to be another beauty, too. Oakley and I got back from Tucson around 16:00 yesterday. Phyl, and her brother took off from Tucson for Calif. To visit their sister. I brought back an excavator and a tree swinging horse built for our first two grand kids who are now 12 and 13. The climate in Okinawa and Tucson hasn't been kind to the red oak. My dear wife has volunteered to refurbish them for our newest granddaughter. She's gonna need some Bondo schooling. She may have bit off a bit much. We'll see. On the way home, Oakley and I picked up a few nice mesquite boards for future use. We then headed to north Phoenix to pick up the saw blades I'd sent for sharpening. Took another 3.5 hours to get home. Oakley slept most of the way. She did wake up to share my Sub Sandwich.

February 13, 20197 yr Popular Post @John Moody - That desk is some kinda sweet! I hope it gets a good, permanent, home... Table is likewise going to be special too. @Woodbutcherbynight - That is pretty nice. I would be lost without my "similar type tool" - very useful. @Grandpadave52 - hope you are getting over that foolish "stunt" you tried to pull out there on the ice! Glad there wasn't any steps involved, like coming off the porch and getting into your routine...

I have one that is a little later model and I love the saw blades. I replaced the bottom of a cabinet under the kitchen sink. That saw slide right along the cabinet wall. The wood? was particle board and any little leak caused that trash to puff and fall through to the ground. So, I removed it and replaced with PT plywood. Fit like a glove and took a very short time and little effort.
