January 4, 20197 yr Here we are on the first Friday of a brand new year. I trust everyone survived all of the New Year’s festivities. I wonder how long it will take us to write 2019 instead of 2018....... This year rings in with a full range of shop activities for yours truly. Tomorrow, I have an appointment to measure a semi circular mantle for a home renovation here in town. It should be challenging but fun. I have a California king bed to build and a pair of cherry bookcases for a local dentist’s office. So, Happy New Year! What’s on you Patriot Woodworker Weekend Agenda?
January 4, 20197 yr Still pretending the holidays aren't over. Been putzing around the shop and not accomplishing much. Monday is soon enough to get back to it.
January 4, 20197 yr just shipped off a salt cylinder holder to my sister....and was in such a hurry, i forgot to get a pic. oops. piece of Wenge, 12-1/2" long, 3" tall, 1-3/4" deep, with eight 7/8" holes drilled into it, each 1-3/4" deep, to hold various flavored salt cylinders (like test tubes) for her kitchen. that's very hard wood.
January 5, 20197 yr Popular Post Spent some time a the furniture bank today after fixing 5 pieces for a moving claim. Furniture bank is moving to a new site by the end of the month and we need to move all the shop equipment, parts, tools, then build some new storage shelving units for us, the repair guy, and household goods dept. Saturday is the first day of the next theater build - Frog and Toad. That will happen every Saturday for the next 10 weeks, then a week of move-in for the production. I'm in the middle of doing some hall storage units for daughter -- two of the lockers are built and awaiting finishing. The third unit is a cabinet for toy and paperwork storage. Got the carcase built, the face frame on, and the door rails and stiles cut and ready for panel insert. Then need to make drawers and shelves for the inside. Prepping to coordinate a Dave Ramsey class that starts on Tuesday. Teaching a session at beginning beekeeper's school in a couple of weeks on how to assemble hive bodies and frames. Woodworking club newsletter needs done this weekend, and have to close out the treasurer's books for the beekeeping club and file with the state organization. Whew! I understand why my dad always said he was busy in retirement.
January 5, 20197 yr Popular Post Likely just attending to the dog...got all of her shots today, heart worm checked/ treated, nails done and oh yeah, spayed...still kind of groggy. Christmas Laser light & cord needs put away. Grand-kids going to their dads Saturday night until Sunday evening. Church Sunday. May wander around in the garage some...supposed to get in low 50's.
January 5, 20197 yr Worked today, you know the kinda stuff you used to do for pay. Got 3 coats of lacquer on the presentation box yesterday and may put on another. Started yesterday on a box to carry the turning club computer and cameras. Just have two weeks til the meeting.
January 5, 20197 yr Popular Post Got the crank wheel turned and two more mock ups for locking latches for the drawer to stay in place.
January 5, 20197 yr If it keeps dry until Sunday, that may be enough drying time to get the lawn mower out and do some of these weeds growing in the back yard. Walked around in it today and it is still wet from all the rain. Maybe, by Sunday, if not then on Monday. The wind has already stopped blowing. I may have to get out the blower and dry the grass enough to get the lawn mower. Wish me luck. LOL Steve in the busy little town of Pensacola

January 5, 20197 yr It stopped raining here yesterday so I moved cars around to free up shop space. After a bit of cleanup I started to build a small corner table. Hey @kmealy; if you are still sleeping at night you might consider giving that up. I need to take a break just reading what all that you have going on! Edited January 5, 20197 yr by Cal

January 6, 20197 yr Popular Post Or for chapped skin anywhere, a dermatologist told me to use simple Vaseline or any kind of petroleum jelly. Works pretty well, nothing special and readily available at affordable prices.
January 6, 20197 yr Popular Post Helping out a widowed friend. Most of the plumbing in her house needs repair/replacing, everything was done in cheap PVC. Only three duplex receptacles in the basement, and two lights. Leaky faucets need replacing also. Probably a month's worth of work, but I'll have to space it out. I'm not 18 any more! John
