Tas,

I retired at 51 from AMC/Chrysler when they offered early retirement to those age 50 and above during the bankruptcy of 2009-10.

I would have retired in another 1 1/2 years anyway when I would have acquired my full 30 years. The offer didn't have an early retirement penalty, and they had already informed us our plant would be closed 1 1/2 years from when they made the offer. I'd already gone through all of the mergers, and didn't care to go through yet another. So I accepted the offer and didn't look back.

There really isn't a mandatory retirement age but you are limited as to how much you can make after I think is age 65, or in my case age 62 due to specifications outlined in my retirement package.

Update:

There’s a flywheel at the bottom of that container somewhere 😂

It’s been soaking in bicarbonate and vinegar for the past few weeks.

Anyway, last job, then reassemble.

Looking forward to seeing this one in all "her" glory. You've done an outstanding job rescuing this old press.

@DuckSoup Hey Ducky. No ratio, I think there’s about 10 litres of vinegar and 400 grams of bicarbonate. Made sure the parts were completely covered first, then added the bicarb. Fizz!

No longer a drill press, but a piece of working art. This is too cool!

Does anyone remember how this goes back together? Hahahaha

Hate it when that happens.

Many thanks, once again @Grandpadave52

I found a spot in my work shop shed and bolted in on today, heavy bugger. Hopefully attach all the parts tomorrow.

Hello all. Task completed.

Photos soon 😀

Whats next you ask? 😉

Bali holiday Hahahaha. True.

I purchased 2 Post Drill Presses for $300. With the idea of restoring both and selling one for $300 see how I go.

The other Post Drill Press is “Dawn” brand, they were big in Australia with vice etc. But I have aplenty of hand tools that are hanging on my shed walls that need tending to.

ThankYou for all your kind comments

Restoration complete

Well, a couple of I’ll explain that I’d like done, then complete.

Look closely the auto arm is broken and won’t reach the top gear that pushes the drill downward as it spins.

Will try and have that repaired.

The only other thing I’d like to redo the handle.

But everything else works just fine.

Its 100.4 degrees here today, so that’s it 🌞

Looking forward to seeing pictures of it all. Certainly enjoyed this thread and story. Really appreciate having you "report" in from Australia too.

Probably will never get there at this stage of my life now but love to hear and see what's going on "down under.":)

Enjoy your holiday.

Very well done too. You certainly envisioned something I probably would never have seen. The fact you rescued & restored a piece of history from a smelting pot is the story. Thanks for taking us along with you on this journey.

Guess you must be in about mid-summer down there at 100.4o.  That's hot...still beats the 7o we had last week and at least your "white" is sand and not snow. Keep cool and check in as you can.

Doesn't Oz use the metric system?  Which means you were just a tad over 212* F???  I think I would hunt some shade too!:BugEyeSmiley:

Some seriously nice work you did on the drill press.  As Dave said, thanks for taking us along.

And, we like to see small hand tools refurb'd too...

Hi again, @Grandpadave52

That is exactly right, saved from being recycled. One of my daughters has already claimed it 😉 hopefully she will pass it down

Its been a labour of love.

I’m still sorting information on this drill press, has been difficult. If you find any information, please let me know, i’m guess 1909 anyone want to start a pole on this? 😉

I did do the US conversion

38.2 degrees celsius it was the other day, and that’s just the begging of summer.

ThankYou
