Tips Forum (Resolved)

Featured Replies

Do we have, or could have, a forum dedicated to tips?  Not talking about fixes for problems brought up my our members, but just things we do in the course of our passion that it occurs to us might be of use to someone else.  Not a separate one for each topic, as that could be labor intensive to set up, but we could lump woodworking, turning, scroll sawing, etc. together in one listing.  Or is that already part of an existing forum that I just haven't found yet?

I'd also suggest "Tips and Problems" (can't think of a synonym that starts with "t").   If someone is having an issue "How do I..."

Tips and Tricks?

My advanced calculus professor once told me "A technique is a trick used more than once."  (calculus theory is full of little strange functions used to prove or disprove something).    She was paraphrasing George Pólya. ... A method is a device which you used twice.

Yeah, that's more of what I had in mind.  I think we do pretty good at describing a specific problem and soliciting suggestions as to its' solution.  I was thinking more along the lines of things that come to mind as we are working.  I'll post one here, to show what my thoughts were:  I use non-cling dryer sheets to wipe my face shield with.  The anti-static properties of the dryer sheet transfer to the face shield, and it picks up less sawdust when I am turning or sanding a project.

make it a sub forum...

Maybe @John Morris will add a forum for us.

Looking at this, quite interesting, I'll make a deal, I'll add tips forums to each topic that needs one, if you all promise to tag your content?

Wouldn't a separate, general, tip forum be easier for you and easier to access?

I did not mean "topic" that was silly. What I meant was each "forum" that needs one, a sub forum for General Woodworking for "Tips", and a sub forum for Turners and Scrolling and Finishing. That way our Forum Hosts can moderate their own respective Tips section.

Sounds good.

It would be more important than ever to be able to categorize the tips and organize with the cooperation of members in tagging their content, it should be mandatory, no sense having all these awesome tips, if you can't find them in the future.

Geeze...with all that extra work, will the moderators get another pay raise? I'm thinking 20% oughta cover it.

You know Gene, with extra duties, we may have to seriously consider some rewards for our hosts, seriously. It's s great point.
