That is fantastic! I can't imagine how much time you must spend on one of these!

 

What did you use as a protective coating?

Thanks Lew, it's my workhorse finish. A couple seal coats of spray can shellac and top coated with Target Coatings water borne gloss acrylic lacquer.

Again you have done a great piece. That shot from the side tho looks like a turtle instead on the rocks I saw when you started.

Thanks to all, a couple people on FB said the same thing, depends on the angle and shadows I guess. The first one of these I did the wife said it looked a giraffe to her.

Steve, I already knew you do fantastic work. Having said that when I saw your picture my first though was (really was) How in the heck did he turn a turtle shell? It looks fantastic and my next thought was where can I find a turtle shell? One of the reasons my mind went that way was that I am contemplating using  shells in a project in the near future. If I am successful, I'll post a picture, if not forget what I said:D Again, great work, great results.

Steve, your skill and creativity are on another level than most.  I am thrilled when I turn a simple bowl and don't screw it up.  You sir, consistently make museum quality pieces.  Well done sir, well done.
