June 6, 20187 yr Popular Post Just finished this morning. I will say that I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. The rim is always a challenge for me as I'm never quite sure what to do with it. I had originally planned a herringbone pattern but nothing I drew looked right to me. It's about 12" diameter and not quite 5" deep. I'm sure I've posted this already but the design on the bottom is called "phicops in a circle" It's a zentangle pattern and the original author is Brad Harms-CZT Steve
June 6, 20187 yr That is fantastic! I can't imagine how much time you must spend on one of these! What did you use as a protective coating?

Thanks Lew, it's my workhorse finish. A couple seal coats of spray can shellac and top coated with Target Coatings water borne gloss acrylic lacquer. Steve

Thanks to all, a couple people on FB said the same thing, depends on the angle and shadows I guess. The first one of these I did the wife said it looked a giraffe to her. 14 hours ago, Grandpadave52 said: Beautiful piece of art Steve! June 11, 20187 yr Steve, I already knew you do fantastic work. Having said that when I saw your picture my first though was (really was) How in the heck did he turn a turtle shell? It looks fantastic and my next thought was where can I find a turtle shell? One of the reasons my mind went that way was that I am contemplating using shells in a project in the near future. If I am successful, I'll post a picture, if not forget what I said Again, great work, great results.
June 11, 20187 yr Steve, your skill and creativity are on another level than most. I am thrilled when I turn a simple bowl and don't screw it up. You sir, consistently make museum quality pieces. Well done sir, well done.

Jim, don't worry, I make my share of designer firewood like every one else, just this morning i burned a few of them. The secret is, I'm careful to not post any pictures of those! Steve
