Just finished this morning. I will say that I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.  The rim is always a challenge for me as I'm never quite sure what to do with it. I had originally planned a herringbone pattern but nothing I drew looked right to me. It's about 12" diameter and not quite 5" deep.

I'm sure I've posted this already but the design on the bottom is called "phicops in a circle" It's a zentangle pattern and the original author is Brad Harms-CZT

That is fantastic! I can't imagine how much time you must spend on one of these!

What did you use as a protective coating?

Thanks Lew, it's my workhorse finish. A couple seal coats of spray can shellac and top coated with Target Coatings water borne gloss acrylic lacquer.

Man that's nice!  The detail in that is awesome.  You got talent.

Beautiful piece of art Steve!

Hope it holds up when filled with Salsa:D

Thanks for sharing your artistry!

Fantastic job, just beautiful.

so what they all said...

Again you have done a great piece. That shot from the side tho looks like a turtle instead on the rocks I saw when you started.

Thanks to all, a couple people on FB said the same thing, depends on the angle and shadows I guess. The first one of these I did the wife said it looked a giraffe to her.

Steve, I already knew you do fantastic work. Having said that when I saw your picture my first though was (really was) How in the heck did he turn a turtle shell? It looks fantastic and my next thought was where can I find a turtle shell? One of the reasons my mind went that way was that I am contemplating using  shells in a project in the near future. If I am successful, I'll post a picture, if not forget what I said:D Again, great work, great results.

Steve, your skill and creativity are on another level than most.  I am thrilled when I turn a simple bowl and don't screw it up.  You sir, consistently make museum quality pieces.  Well done sir, well done.

Once again, thanks to everyone who commented. Jim, don't worry, I make my share of designer firewood like every one else, just this morning i burned  a few of them. The secret is, I'm careful to not post any pictures of those! :)
