Driving through Mississippi earlier this month the rest stations sometime had signs that they were patrolled or secure or something like that.  Don't know if that was from predators or lot lizards.

How was the trip to Pickyernose MS.? Great folks, there. Hope you enjoyed the people and the food.

That is typical along all of the interstates running through LA, MS, AL and Florida.  Over the years they have had predators hanging out in the rest areas, child molesters, rapists, thieves, and, um, "gender confused" people accosting the travelers.

My ex's deceased husband was on his way home from a stint off-shore. He stopped at a rest area on I-10 to clean up and shave prior to coming home. He was approached by two "gender confused" individuals who insisted on allowing them to get intimate with him. Needless, to say, he managed to get out of the rest room unscathed, but he arrived home half shaved. That was back in the late 80's and it has improved greatly since that time.

Most of the "guards" are unarmed rent-a-cops who generally just sit in their cars in the parking lot. It has curtailed a lot of the thefts, robberies, etc. that have occurred at the rest stops in the past. So, if all you saw were lot lizards thank the state for ensuring that is all you saw.

I think like Bill said just a presence, but Sheriff deputy and Hwy Patrol also go by those regularly.
